EASTON, Mass. (April 1, 2023)- Stonehill College women's ice hockey freshman forward, Alexis Petford was named to the All-USCHO Rookie Team as announced by the organization earlier this week.

Petford is just one of two student-athletes from the New England Women's Hockey Alliance to earn a spot on an All-USCHO Team (Jill Hertl-Franklin Pierce). Joining Petford as the two other forwards on the All-Rookie Team are USCHO Rookie of the Year, Tessa Janecke of Penn State, and Wisconsin's Kirsten Simms.

Overall, Petford had a strong freshman campaign as she finished third in the nation in goals (28) and led all freshmen in the entire country and the NEWHA in the same category. The five-time NEWHA Weekly award winner (Player of the Week-three/Rookie of the Week-two) had five multi-goal games on the year and scored the program's first hat trick in an 8-3 win at Saint Anselm (Jan. 21). Petford ended the season registering at least one point per game and finished tied for the NEWHA lead with 47. Not only did she lead the team in goals, but Petford also led the squad in assists with 19. When on the ice, Petford was a conference-best, plus-31. Petford was also named the NEWHA's Rookie of the Year while she also earned spots on the NEWHA First Team and conference's All-Rookie Team.

Stonehill finished their inaugural season with a 19-16-2 record while going 14-9-1 in NEWHA action for 29 points in the regular season which clinched the three-seed in the NEWHA playoffs. The team opened league play with a bang, winning their first five conference games and outscored their opponents by a 19-5 margin, and did not lose in regulation time until the month of November. The Skyhawks finished as a highly ranked team in multiple categories such as goals (120-12th) which was ahead of nationally-ranked No. 15 Boston College. In terms of the powerplay, Stonehill finished ranked within the top 10 (ninth) in powerplay goals (21) which was ahead of No. 9 Clarkson, No. 11 Vermont, and No. 12 St. Cloud State. The team finished leading the country in shorthanded goals with 10.

In Stonehill's NEWHA playoff debut, the Purple and White had an opening-round sweep of Post University in which Stonehill outscored the Eagles, 11-4 in both games. However, in the second round, the Skyhawks fell 4-2 in a back-and-forth battle with Saint Anselm.
