The Details

  • Early in the first period, Lindenwood put the offensive pressure on the Skyhawks as the Lions generated six powerplay opportunities including two five-on-three advantages. Despite taking 12 shots, Zukow and the Stonehill power-play kill shut down the Lions each time.
  • With less than three minutes left in the opening period, the Purple and White grabbed the first goal courtesy of Karo. After Feeney made a nice move on the Stonehill end of the ice, she pushed up the right side and found a skating Karo on the left side and after she swung the puck over to her, Karo buried her shot past Ferenc's glove side.
  • Stonehill continued their offensive momentum early into the second (14:40) when Whaley and Feeney played give-and-go passing and Feeney found an open Petford who put her shot past the Lindenwood netminder for a 2-0 advantage.
  • However, the Lions cut the lead to one (2-1) when Finnegan snuck the puck past Zukow but the Skyhawks pushed it back to two five minutes later at the 9:44 mark. Russell found an open Feeney at the left face-off circle who then pushed the puck over to Whaley at the bottom of the net for an open score.
  • Despite the two-goal lead, the Lions responded and evened the contest at three courtesy of goals from both Pioske and Goff at 8:07 and 3:27 respectively.
  • As the second period wound down with 1:28 remaining, Turcotte corralled a loose puck in front of the Lindenwood net and netted the eventual game-winner as the Skyhawks headed into the final frame up 4-3.
  • Lindenwood had great looks in the final period for the tying goal as they generated a powerplay with 6:50 left and peppered Zukow with three shots but she stonewalled each attempt. Petford tacked on an empty-net goal with 2:18 remaining as Stonehill held on for the 5-3 win.
