The Details

  • Both sides played hard in the opening frame as each side's defense and goaltending kept the other off the board. However, with less than five minutes left in the first (4:19), Stonehill got on the board first courtesy of Achtyl. After Petford sent the puck to Achtyl on the right side, she saw her initial attempt stopped by Hertl but ended up putting the rebound past Hertl in front of the net.
  • Nearly two minutes later at 2:36, Ruiz received a pass from Rich and she sent her shot past Zukow's right side and evened the game at one heading into the second.
  • The second half started the same as the first, and Stonehill had plenty of opportunities as they outshot Franklin Pierce, 15-7 including an early shot by Achtyl but was turned back by Hertl. Despite outshooting the Ravens, Franklin Pierce broke the draw as Farrell as Caban swung the puck to Rich who then sent it on net toward Farrell who deflected the puck in for the 2-1 lead.
  • Stonehill had a chance for the equalizer late in the second when the Purple and White sent three shots in a row on Hertl but she, unfortunately, stopped each one as the Ravens took a 2-1 lead into the final period.
  • When it seemed like Franklin Pierce was going to hang on for the 2-1 win, Turcotte changed that tied the game at two with under four minutes left (3:49). After Kenmore received the puck from Whaley, Turcotte put a shot on net but then took advantage of a second chance opportunity and evened things at two.
  • With less than two minutes left, Stonehill had a great chance for the win after they drew a power play opportunity. During the extra skater advantage, Achtyl and Petford each got shots off but were shutdown by the Ravens defense and headed into overtime.
  • In overtime, Josie Mendeszoon had a chance for the win when she put her shot on the Franklin Pierce net but Hertl made yet another save. Maeve Carey also had a great look in overtime as well, but again Hertl made the stop.
  • Despite the two Stonehill shots, Franklin Pierce ended up with the game-winner when Rich sent ahead the puck to Farrell and on the fast break, she generated her own offense and slipped the puck past Zukow's pads for the 3-2 overtime win.
  • Overall on the day, Stonehill outshot Franklin Pierce, 35-34. The Skyhawks 35 shots marked a new season-high for the Purple and White which topped their previous best of 34 set back on October 14 versus Saint Michael's College.
  • Zukow's 31 saves marked the fourth time this year she has finished with 25 or more saves.
