EASTON, Mass. (December 7, 2022)- For the second time in her career, Stonehill College women's ice hockey freshman, Alexis Petford was named to the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) Honor Roll for Rookie of the Month as announced by the organization earlier today.

Petford continues her strong start in her rookie campaign as the first-year forward has already been named a New England Women's Hockey Alliance Rookie of the Week. She is just one of four Skyhawks so far this season to have won a weekly NEWHA award joining Bailey Feeney-Rookie of the Week (Dec. 6), Hanna Zukow-Goalie of the Week (Nov. 1), and Gracie Sacca-Rookie of the Week (Oct. 11).

She currently leads the team with 13 goals, eight assists, points (21). and is a team-best +15. Petford's best game last month came in a 4-1 road victory over fellow NEWHA member, Sacred Heart University where Petford netted two goals and was a +2 on the day as well. Last weekend in the squad's first non-conference sweep versus Lindenwood, Petford scored in each game including the opening goal in last Friday's 2-1 overtime win. Overall this past month, Petford scored in five of the squad's eight games played and recorded at least one point in six of those eight.

In terms of the conference, Petford is ranked within the top five in multiple categories that include: plus/minus (first), goals (second), points (third), and assists fifth).  Petford ranks within the top 10 in terms of shots (7th) as she has taken 53 on the season and is ranked first on the team in the same category.

Stonehill will have some much-deserved time off as the squad hosts Dartmouth on Friday, December 30 for a 1 p.m. puck drop. The Skyhawks then begin the new year with a NEWHA two-game set versus Sacred Heart University starting on Friday, January 6 at 5 p.m.

About the HCA

Beginning in the 1990s, the commissioners of the NCAA's Division I ice hockey conferences began meeting regularly to discuss ways to grow the sport of college hockey. Their meetings and activities were formalized when the Hockey Commissioners Association was created in 2003. At first, the HCA dealt solely with men's hockey issues. The Women's Hockey Commissioners Association was formed in 2014.

In 2009, the HCA negotiated with USA Hockey to secure funding for a marketing arm for Division I Men's hockey, College Hockey Inc. (CHI). Division I Men's hockey has benefited from the work of CHI, as have hundreds of families who have been provided information and guidance as they make important choices for their hockey-playing sons.
