Geist Named NEWHA Rookie Of The Week

EASTON, Mass. (January 17, 2023)- After posting a five-point weekend (three goals, two assists) against Franklin Pierce, Stonehill College women's ice hockey freshman, Lily Geist was named the New England Women's Hockey Alliance Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career.

Geist finished the week with five points for Stonehill, opening play on Friday at Franklin Pierce with a three-point evening. The freshman forward scored twice and added an assist versus the Ravens in a 6-3 win before producing a goal and a helper the next day in a 4-1 victory. For Geist, Friday's two-goal performance marked a new single-game career high.

The Skyhawks also saw three other student-athletes earn honor roll including Kathryn Karo (Player of the Week), Josie Mendeszoon (Defensive Player of the Week), and Eve Stone (Goalie of the Week).

Karo finished with a three-point weekend that included scoring the eventual game-winning goal in Saturday's 4-1 win versus Franklin Pierce and also added an empty-net goal to seal the victory. Karo's two-goal performance marked a career-high in a single game for the freshman. On Friday, she netted the go-ahead goal after being tied at one. Mendeszoon finished with three blocked shots on Saturday and also assisted on Karo's go-ahead goal on Friday. Finally, Stone had a career game in Friday's 6-3 crucial win at Franklin Pierce as the freshman notched a career-high 35 saves.

Stonehill starts up another home and home with a NEWHA member when the Skyhawks welcome Saint Anselm College on Friday, January 20 at 5 p.m.
