Women’s Ice Hockey Edged by Sacred Heart University, 4-6

SHELTON, Conn. (November 12, 2022)- The Stonehill College women's ice hockey team wrapped up their weekend in Connecticut with a loss against Sacred Heart University, 4-6 Saturday evening at the Sports Center of Connecticut.

The Details

  • Both teams saw no scoring in the first period of the game until the second period began and both teams scored a goal within the first three minutes.
  • Stonehill set the pace of the game after Lily Geist scored the first goal at the 00:15 mark, assisted by Maeve Carey
  • Not to long after, Sacred Heart answered back with an unassisted goal from Paige McNeil at the 2:47 mark.
  • As the second period continued, Stonehill's Alexis Petford found the net herself, scoring off a pass from Gracie Sacca.
  • With only a few minutes left in the second period, Sacred Heart closes the period with a goal from Cassandra Nevers, assisted by Sophie Lupone, going into the final quarter with a tied score.
  • Going into the third period, Sacred Heart found themselves in a power play position, where Rachel DeLong scored off of Julianna Koman and Cassandra Nevers.
  • Stonehill answered back with an unassisted goal by Kathryn Karo to tie the score 3-3.
  • Sacred heart finds Stonehill down a player in a power play situation, Iyla Ryskamp took advantage of the opportunity, scoring off an assist from Sydney Antonakis.
  • Stonehill found themselves down by one, until Sarah Taylor found the back of the net off a pass from Paige Whaley, putting the score at 4-4.
  • Sacred Heart University closed out the game with back-to-back goals from Paige McNeil, assisted by Delani MacKay, and an unassisted goal by Sydney Antonakis, leaving Sacred Heart up by two.
  • Sacred Heart outshot the Skyhawks by a 36-25 margin which included an 18-6 advantage in the second. 
  • In today's contest, Stonehill's Eve Stone made 30 saves during today's match up.
