The Details

  • Saint Michael's threatened early when the Purple Knights generated a powerplay opportunity 30 seconds in and Angela Ruiz and Emersynn McGillis each had shots on Stonehill goalie, Eve Stone but she made two early key stops which kept things scoreless.
  • Later in the opening frame, Turcotte sent the puck up to Feeney who swung the puck to Carey as she was able to send her shot past White's glove side for an early 1-0 lead.
  • Nearly 10 minutes later (17:00), Geist netted the Skyhawks second goal to double their lead after she received a great setup from Tuffy and Karo. From there, Stonehill's defense and Stone kept the Purple Knights off the board to head into the second period with a 2-0 advantage.
  • As the second period got underway, the Purple Knights continued to threaten Stone again with three early shots but she turned each attempt away. At 07:27, Stone corraled the puck and sent it up to Sacca who found a skating Petford up the side and she put her shot past White for the 3-0 advantage. Five minutes later, Sacca sent a pass to Petford in the right circle who rifled home a one-time which made it 4-0.
  • The Skyhawks continued their momentum into the final period when Petford in the slot, netted her second goal for a 5-0 lead. Geist kept the scoring when she took a great look from Karo to make it 6-0. Geist's two goals were the first two of her collegiate career.
  • Two minutes later, Barrett got in on the scoring when she netted the seventh Stonehill goal. Barrett's goal was also a first for her career. Stonehill's offense kept coming at a fast pace as Karo grabbed a free puck near the Purple Knights zone and pushed hard to the goalie and made a great move to beat the goalie's glove side for an eight-goal lead (8-0).
  • With the third period coming to an end, Sonntag chipped in a goal of her own which made it 9-0. Sonntag's goal marked the first in her Stonehill career.
  • Overall, Stone finished with 13 saves and notched her first-ever shutout.
  • Stonehill outshot the Purple Knights by a 29-13 margin including an 8-2 third period.
  • The Skyhawks are just one of eight Division I teams so far this season to have scored nine or more goals in a game.
