Women's Hockey's Coach Watchorn Highlights Team Canada Coaching Staff

MADISON, Wis. (June 7, 2022)- Stonehill women's hockey head coach, Tara Watchorn will be one of three coaches for the women's Canadian U18 national team at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) U18 Women's World Championship slated to take place between June 6-13 at the LaBahn Ice Arena in Madison, Wisconsin – home of the University of Wisconsin women's ice hockey team. 

The tournament will be played with a two-tiered preliminary round. The top-4 seeded teams USA, Canada, Finland, and Sweden will compete in Group A while Czechia, Switzerland, Germany, and Slovakia will play in Group B.

The best two teams from Group A will get a semi-final bye while the teams ranked third and fourth in Group A will play the top two teams from Group B in a quarter-final game to advance to the semis. One team will be relegated and one team will be promoted.

Yesterday, Watchorn and Team Canada lost a tough 2-0 contest to Finland and will continue group play later today at 5 p.m. versus Sweeden and then round out group action with a matchup against the USA on Thursday, June 9 at 9 p.m.

About the IIHF

The IIHF, founded on 15 May 1908 in Paris, France, is the governing body of international ice hockey. The IIHF features 82 member associations, each of which is the national governing body of the sport in its nation.
