The Details

  • The Skyhawks got on the board less than seven minutes into the opening frame when Walkom generated a turnover inside the blue line on Post's side and fired home a one-timer past Glasrud. Walkom's goal is the first playoff goal scored in the program's history.
  • Stonehill's defense kept Post at bay in the first period as the squad allowed just one shot and held the Eagles scoreless heading into the second.
  • In the second period, the Purple and White continued where they left off in the first less than two-minutes in when Petford netted her nation-leading, 26th goal. Whaley found an open Petford near the left face-off circle and once the forward corralled the puck, she put her shot past Glasurd's glove side.
  • Later in the period (11:37), Petford dumped the puck back for Geist who was right behind her and she riffled her shot past the Eagles netminder and made it 3-0.
  • Nearly four minutes later (15:01), Sacca put a shot on net and Karo ended up being in the right place at the right time to deflect the puck past Glasrud and increased the lead Skyhawks to four (4-0). Shortly after (16:10), the Eagles cut the deficit to three courtesy of Wysocki.
  • However, the Skyhawks recaptured their four-point lead (5-1) on a powerplay opportunity after Geist's inital shot was stopped by Glasrud but she put home the rebound after the Eagles goalie could not control the free puck.
  • Going into the third with a four-goal lead, Stonehill tacked on two more goals thanks to Sonntag and Whaley at 03:28 and 08:44 respectively. Sonntag's goal came when Petford sent her pass across the ice to Sonntag who was in front of Saunders. After Saunders stopped her first shot, Sonntag stayed with the puck and snuck it past Saunders. Whaley's short-handed goal came the same way as Sonntag's with Whaley sending a cross ice pass on Post's side of the ice to Whaley near Saunders and beat her glove side and made it 7-1. Her short-handed goal was the Skyhawks 10th on the year which leads the nation.
