The Details

  • Long Island struck less than five minutes into the opening period (03:07) when Lantto was set up by Kearns and Johnsson for the early 1-0 Sharks advantage. However, Stonehill responded nearly nine minutes into the contest (08:48) when Mendeszoon swung the puck over to Walkom who then found an open Petford for her 10th goal of the season and evened things at one.
  • For the rest of the frame, Stone and the Stonehill defense kept the Sharks in check as Long Island did not score the rest of the first period which kept the squad within striking distance. Petford had a chance for the go-ahead goal with 26 seconds left in the first but saw her attempt stopped by Holm and both sides headed into the second tied at one.
  • Similar to the first, Long Island struck first to start the second off the stick of Umpherville nearly seven and a half minutes into the frame (07:22). Despite the lead, the Skyhawks answered yet again and tied the contest at two when Achtyl corraled a loose puck after her initial shot prior to the goal.
  • Neither side found the back of the net for the rest of the second and headed into the third tied at two. In the final period, both sides had great looks including a point early in the third when just a little five minutes in (05:08), Lily Barrett sent a shot on net but was turned away by Holm. Long Island tested Stone early in the third when the Sharks peppered the Stonehill netminder with three shots in a row but she stopped each attempt.
  • However, with just 47 seconds left, Wallner netted the eventual game-winner which made it 3-2. The Purple and White called a timeout after the goal and coming out of the timeout, the squad had two great looks both from Gracie Sacca but unfortunately, each of her shots was stopped as time expired.
