The Details

  • Early on, both sides played a fast pace and back and forth contest but nearly halfway through the first (11:00), Stonehill struck first courtesy of Petford. Mendeszoon swung the puck over to Petford who was in the left face-off circle and sent a one-timer past Fernec's stick side for a 1-0 Skyhawk lead.
  • As the first wound down, Lindenwood kept the offensive pressure on Zukow, as the Lions had a stretch where they fired five shots in a row at her but she denied each shot, and the squad headed into the second with a one-goal lead.
  • Less than a minute into the second period, Goff evened the game at one when she grabbed the puck from the left corner and skated toward the front of Zukow, and sent a quick shot past the Stonehill netminder.
  • Stonehill had multiple great looks in the second frame as Sydney Russell led the squad with four shots but just could not get them past Fernec as the teams headed into the final period tied at one.
  • Zukow held strong in the final period to keep the Skyhawks within striking distance as she stopped all Lions shots in the frame but unfortunately Stonehill could not get their shots past Fernec too and the schools headed into overtime.
  • Nearly two minutes into the extra period, Sonntag corraled the lose puck after Paige Whaley sent a shot on net and after taking the puck back to the blue line, Sonntag made her push to the net. She skated past one Lions defender and found herself in front of the Lions net and then sent her shot to the upper right corner for the game-winning goal.
  • Stonehill has now beaten two out-of-conference opponents on the year with their other win coming last week against RPI in a 3-1 victory. The squad also improved their overtime record to 2-3-1 with their other overtime win coming against Post University back on October 7 in a 4-3 contest.
