Women's Ice Hockey Reveals Program's Inaugural Schedule

Skyhawks to play 20 home games at Bridgewater Ice Arena in inaugural season

EASTON, Mass. (June 29, 2022)- The Stonehill College women's ice hockey program and head coach Tara Watchorn has announced its inaugural season schedule with 35 contests throughout the year starting in September.

Stonehill will make its awaited debut as a member of the New England Women's Hockey Association (NEWHA) which features Franklin Pierce University, Long Island University, Post University, Sacred Heart University, Saint Anselm College and Saint Michael's College. 

After hosting an exhibition game against the University of Moncton at the Bridgewater Ice Arena on Saturday, September 24, at 3 p.m., Stonehill officially starts its inaugural regular season schedule with a home and home weekend series with Hockey East member, University of Connecticut on Friday, September 30 in Storrs, Connecticut, at 6 p.m. followed by the Skyhawks official home opener against the Huskies on Saturday, October 1, at the Bridgewater Ice Arena at 5 p.m. More details on ceremonies surrounding the Skyhawks first official home game will be announced at a later date.

Stonehill continues a five-game homestand starting NEWHA play against Post University on Friday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (2 p.m.), October 7-8, followed by a weekend series with Saint Michael's College on Friday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (2 p.m.), October 14-15.

Stonehill will continue its non-conference schedule the weekend of October 21-22 with a home and home series against East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) member, Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island on Friday, October 21 (6 p.m.) and then back at Bridgewater Ice Arena on Saturday, October 22 (3 p.m.). The Skyhawks return to NEWHA play the next four weekends leading up to Thanksgiving, starting against Franklin Pierce on October 28-29 and then Saint Anselm on November 4-5 with home and home series, before hitting the road for back-to-back weekend series at Sacred Heart November 11-12 and LIU November 18-19.

Stonehill takes some time off from NEWHA play to continue non-conference action that features contests against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (November 25-26) from the ECAC, Lindenwood (Mo.) University (December 2-3) from College Hockey America, and another ECAC member, Dartmouth College (December 30). In the month of January, the Skyhawks play all NEWHA games including a home weekend series against Sacred Heart University (January 6-7), and home and home series with Franklin Pierce (January 13-14), and Saint Anselm (January 20-21), before capping the month with a weekend series at Post (January 27-28).

Stonehill will cap their inaugural season in February, starting with a home weekend series with LIU February 3-4, before capping the NEWHA regular season at Saint Michael's in South Burlington, Vermont, February 10-11. The Skyhawks final regular season matchup is a non-conference meeting at CHA champions Syracuse University, an NCAA Championship participant this March, on Saturday, February 18, at 2 p.m.

The 2023 NEWHA Tournament will commence with first round play the weekend of March 24-26 for best of three game series for the No. 2-7 seeds, while the top seed earns a bye to the semifinal round on Wednesday, March 1, hosted by the top two remaining seeds. The NEWHA Championship game is scheduled for Saturday, March 4, at the home of the highest remaining seed, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships for the first time in conference history.
