ITA East Regional Rankings

EASTON, Mass. (April 25, 2013) – The Northeast-10 Conference Champion Stonehill College women's tennis team is ranked fifth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings released on Wednesday night and have made program history by placing two student-athletes in the ITA's East Regional singles rankings to go with one regionally-ranked doubles pairing.

Stonehill has moved up one spot to fifth in the ITA East Regional rankings as a team after being ranked sixth in the March 20 rankings. The Skyhawks captured their fourth Northeast-10 Tournament Championship over the weekend with a 5-2 victory over seventh-ranked Southern New Hampshire University. Stonehill has reached the 20-win mark for the second time in program history and are just a win shy of the program record of 21 set by the 2008-09 team that won both the NE-10 regular season and tournament championships on its way to the NCAA Championships Round of 16.

Stonehill has two student-athletes ranked in the ITA's East Regional singles rankings for the first time in program history. Freshman Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian), the first regionally-ranked singles player in program history when she debuted at No. 19 in the first ITA East rankings after the fall campaign, has moved up to No. 12 in this month's rankings – marking the highest regional ranking in program history. Classmate Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) has debuted at No. 15 in Wednesday's rankings.

Paradiso, an NE-10 All-Rookie selection, has posted a 15-12 overall singles record for Stonehill in her first collegiate season. She is 13-9 in dual match play, including an 8-4 clip in Conference play. Paradiso has collected two wins over regionally-ranked players this season, defeating Chestnut Hill College's Kelly Dennis, ranked 13th in the current regional rankings, 7-5, 6-3 in the first round of the ITA East Regional in September, to go with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 decision over Juliana Victoria of Holy Cross University, ranked tenth in this week's rankings. She has earned NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors five times and Player of the Week twice.

Toegemann, a second team All-Northeast-10 performer at No. 2 singles for Stonehill, makes her first appearance in the ITA rankings having posted a 22-5 overall singles record in her first collegiate season. She is 16-2 in dual match play, including an 11-1 mark in NE-10 matches, going 10-2 since moving up to No. 2 singles after winning all six matches at No. 5 during the fall season. Toegemann posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory over then tenth-ranked Luisa Candido, now ranked 16th in the region. Toegemann, also an NE-10 All-Rookie Team selection, has been named the NE-10 Rookie of the Week four times and Player of the Week twice.

Toegemann and senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) have moved up three spots to No. 6 in the ITA East Regional doubles rankings, marking the highest regional rank for a doubles pairing in program history. The duo have posted a 9-2 record since being paired up following spring break, including a 6-1 record in NE-10 play, to earn second team All-Conference honors at No. 1 doubles this season. Toegemann and Frost have posted a 2-2 record against regionally-ranked teams, including their 8-5 victory over Southern New Hampshire's Alena Mukdaprakorn and Diana Vamvakitis, ranked 22nd nationally and second in the region, in Saturday's NE-10 Championship match. They also posted an 8-3 win over Adelphi University's Maria Toft and Bianca Posa, ranked tenth in the region this season. Toegemann is the first student-athlete in program history to be regionally ranked for both singles and doubles.

Stonehill (20-3, 11-1 NE-10) has earned its fifth-straight NCAA Tournament bid and eighth overall, and will host East Regional #1 on Saturday and Sunday at Charles Watt Tennis Courts. The fourth-seeded Skyhawks will face fifth-seeded and 50th-ranked Chestnut Hill College (18-8, 6-2 CACC) in an opening round matchup on Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner will advance to face top-seeded and 15th-ranked New York Institute of Technology (22-3, 6-1 ECC) on Sunday at 9 a.m.
