Stonehill Rolls Past American International, 8-1

Skyhawks remain unbeaten in NE-10 play with third-straight win

EASTON, Mass. (March 25, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, maintained its unbeaten mark in Conference play with an 8-1 decision over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.

Senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) and freshman Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) led five double-winners for Stonehill in its third-straight win. The duo, ranked ninth among East Region doubles pairings by the ITA, rolled to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles as the Skyhawks swept the three doubles matches by dropping just the one game over three combined sets. Toegemann followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles over American International senior Ana Paula Simoes (Brasilia, Brazil), while Frost claimed an 8-0 win at No. 3 singles over senior Martine Turgeon (Monson, Mass./Monson).

Senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) were also double-winners for Stonehill, winning their matches without dropping a single game, starting with an 8-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles. Martin added a 6-0, 6-0 win over grad student Jessica Hall (Higganum, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) at No. 4 singles, while Haedrich breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 over senior Ally Trinier (Ajax, Ontario/Ajax).

Freshman Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill. She posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles over senior Christina Bourett (Spencer, Mass./David Prouty) at No. 6 singles after teaming up with freshman Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

Freshman Manon Janin (Tours, France) claimed the lone point for American International by rallying for a 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 win over Paradiso, ranked 19th in the ITA East Regional singles rankings, at No. 1 singles.

Stonehill (14-2, 7-0 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it visits Assumption College for an NE-10 matchup at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks next home match is Thursday, April 4, when it hosts Southern New Hampshire University for a key NE-10 clash at 3 p.m. American International (0-5, 0-5 NE-10) hosts Bentley University tomorrow at 3 p.m.
