Stonehill Breezes Past Cedarville, 9-0

Skyhawks bounce back from first loss on Monday with sweep

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (March 5, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, bounced back from its first defeat of the season with a 9-0 triumph over Cedarville University of Ohio in non-conference women's tennis action at Sanlando Park this afternoon.

Seniors Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) and Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip), junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) and freshmen Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) and Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) were all double-winners for Stonehill in the win. Sophomore Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) also picked up a win for the Skyhawks with a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Cedarville senior Brooke Johnson (East Moline, Ill./Morning Star Academy) at No. 2 singles.

Frost teamed up with sophomore Olivia Schneider (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles and then rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 10-5 decision over junior Joy Dice (Salem, Ill.) at No. 3 singles. Paradiso, the 19th ranked singles player in the East Region by the ITA, rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win over sophomore Lily Schuler (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) at No. 1 singles. She and Kump combined for a tight 9-8 (7-5) victory at No. 3 doubles. Kump then added a 6-2, 6-2 win over senior Melissa Stoltzfus (Newberg, Ore./Veritas School) at No. 4 singles.

Martin and Haedrich teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and then Martin won a 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 battle with sophomore Courtney Heydt (Mason, Ohio/Mason) at No. 5 singles. Haedrich collected a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles over sophomore Maryssa Herbert (Milford, Mich./Lakeland).

Stonehill (9-1, 5-0 NE-10) is back in action tomorrow when it closes out its spring break schedule with a matchup with Ohio Dominican University at Lake Cane Tennis Center at 10:30 a.m. The Skyhawks next home match is Wednesday, March 13, when it hosts College of the Holy Cross for a makeup match at 3 p.m. Cedarville (7-4) faces Berry College tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
