Paradiso Earns Fifth NE-10 Rookie of the Week Award

Birmingham, Mich., native helps lead Skyhawks to 3-1 mark over spring break

EASTON, Mass. (March 12, 2013) – Stonehill College freshman Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian), the 19th-ranked singles player in the East Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's women's tennis Rookie of the Week by the league office this afternoon.

Paradiso, who earns Rookie of the Week honors for the fifth time over her freshman year to go with a pair of Player of the Week awards, helped lead Stonehill to a 3-1 week to open its second semester schedule during its spring break trip to Central Florida last week. She was a combined 5-3 in singles and doubles play, splitting her four matches at No. 1 singles for the Skyhawks while combining with classmate Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) for a 3-1 doubles mark, going 2-0 at No. 3 doubles and splitting two matches at No. 2.

Paradiso was a double-winner for Stonehill in wins over Aquinas (Mich.) College and Cedarville (Ohio) University, with both of her singles losses coming to regionally-ranked opponents. She posted a back-and-forth 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 win over Lauren Ramey from Aquinas on Sunday after she and Kump notched an 8-3 doubles win. Paradiso also rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win against Cedarville's Lily Schuler on Tuesday after posting a 9-8 (7-5) doubles win with Kump. She and Kump also collected an 8-5 decision over the No. 3 doubles team from Ohio Dominican University on Wednesday.

Paradiso is a combined 23-10 in singles and doubles play over her freshman season. She has posted a 10-6 singles mark, including a 5-0 record in NE-10 matches, with an 8-3 clip at No. 1 singles during dual match play. She reached the second round of the championship singles bracket at the ITA East Regional before falling to Southern New Hampshire's Alena Mukdaprakorn, ranked fourth in the region, 7-6 (7-1), 6-4. She later placed sixth in the No. 1 singles bracket at the New England Championships against Division I competition.

Prior to teaming up with Kump over the last four matches in doubles play, Paradiso combined with senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) to post a 12-3 doubles record, including a 7-0 dual match mark at the top flight and a 5-0 clip in the NE-10. The duo reached the B-Doubles bracket semifinals at the ITA East Regional in September and then placed fourth at the New England Championships in October.

Stonehill (10-1 5-0 NE-10), ranked seventh in the most recent ITA East Regional rankings, is back in action tomorrow when it hosts Division I College of the Holy Cross for a non-conference matchup at Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks will also host Concordia (N.Y.) University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
