Toegemann Named NE-10 Player and Rookie of the Week

Narragansett, R.I., freshman sweeps weekly awards for second time

EASTON, Mass. (April 16, 2013) – Stonehill College freshman Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player and Rookie of Week for women's tennis by the league office this afternoon.

Toegemann has earned both NE-10 Player and Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season and collects her fourth Rookie of the Week award overall. She led Stonehill to a 3-0 week by posting a combined 6-0 record in singles and doubles play. Toegemann won all three of her matches at No. 2 singles while also teaming up with senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) for a 3-0 record at No. 1 doubles. She was a double-winner in the Skyhawks road wins at Bentley University and Saint Michael's College as well as their win over Merrimack College in their regular season finale. She was a straight sets winner in all three singles matches.

Toegemann, who has earned second team All-Northeast-10 Conference honors for both No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, along with Frost, as well as NE-10 All-Rookie Team status, has posted a combined 40-8 record in singles and doubles play in her first collegiate season. She is 21-4 in singles, having won her last three matches, including a 15-1 dual match record with an 11-1 mark in NE-10 play, going 9-1 at No. 2 after also posting a 6-0 clip at No. 5 during the fall. Toegemann has a 19-4 doubles record with four different partners, including a 7-2 record with Frost (6-1 NE-10) as the duo are the ninth-ranked doubles team in the East Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Toegemann reached the B-singles championship at the ITA East Regional in September as well as the B-doubles quarterfinals with senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip).

Stonehill (18-3, 11-1 NE-10), ranked seventh in last week's NCAA Division II East Regional rankings and sixth in the ITA East Regional rankings, has earned the No. 2 seed for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament and will host a semifinal round matchup with third-seeded Saint Michael's College on Thursday at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at  2 p.m.
