Martin earns second career Player of the Week award
Paradiso named Rookie of the Week for fourth time
EASTON, Mass. (October 22, 2012) – Two members of the Stonehill College women's tennis team have capped the fall season with weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference.
Junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) has been named the NE-10 Player of the Week, while freshman Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marin) has been selected as the Conference's Rookie of the Week after the duo led Stonehill to a 9-0 win over the University of New Haven and a sixth place finish at the New England Championships.
Martin, who earns Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career, posted a combined 3-3 record in singles and doubles play, placing fourth at the New England Championships with a spot in the No. 6 singles semifinals. Martin opened the week with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles in the Skyhawks final dual match of the season, a 9-0 win over New Haven. She then placed fourth at the New England Championships after dropping a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 decision to University of Rhode Island freshman Lauren Benoit in the third place match. Martin opened the event with a 6-0, 6-2 win over University of Hartford sophomore Christie Greenberg in the quarterfinals.
Martin has finished the fall season with a combined 8-5 record in singles and doubles play. She is 7-4 in singles play, posting a 5-1 mark at No. 6 singles in dual match play, including a 5-0 record in NE-10 matches. Martin and freshman Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) have split two doubles matches this fall, those coming at the New England Championships.
Martin is a combined 66-22 (.750) over her career at Stonehill, earning All-Northeast-10 honors for both singles and doubles as a freshman when she was also named to the NE-10's All-Rookie team. She is 31-12 (.721) over her career in singles play, including a 20-2 mark in Conference play, while posting a 35-10 (.778) doubles record, including 17-1 in NE-10 play. Martin was part of the B-Doubles Championship winning team at both the Salve Regina Grass Courts Invitational and ITA East Regional her freshman year.
Paradiso, who has also been named NE-10 Player of the Week twice this fall, has earned Rookie of the Week honors for the second-straight week and fourth time overall. She was a combined 4-4 in singles and doubles play, also helping Stonehill to the sixth place team finish at the New England Championships. Paradiso was a double-winner in the Skyhawks 9-0 win over New Haven, posting victories at No. 1 singles and doubles. She combined with senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) to place fourth in the No. 1 doubles flight at the New England Championships, while also placing sixth in the top flight singles bracket.
Paradiso posted a combined 20-7 record in singles and doubles play during the fall season to start her collegiate career. She is 8-4 in singles play, including a 6-1 mark at No. 1 singles and a 5-0 start to her NE-10 career. Paradiso and Frost have teamed up to go 12-3 in doubles play, including a 7-0 dual match record at the top flight and a 5-0 mark in the NE-10. The duo reached the B-Doubles bracket semifinals at the ITA East Regional in Philadelphia two weeks ago.
Stonehill (7-0, 5-0 NE-10), ranked fifth in the ITA East Regional rankings, returns to action in February for the spring portion of its schedule which will be released in the coming weeks.
