Skyhawks wrap up busy two week stretch with fourth straight win

WORCESTER, Mass. (March 27, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, closed out a busy two week stretch on a winning note with a 9-0 sweep of Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action this afternoon.

Freshmen Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) and Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) as well as senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) led Stonehill to a fourth straight win as the Skyhawks closed out a stretch of six matches over the last two weeks. Toegemann and Frost, the ninth-ranked doubles team in the East Region, posted an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and then Toegemann followed with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Assumption freshman Cassy Waung (Bolton, Mass./East Catholic) at No. 2 singles. Frost added a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 3 singles over junior Paige Gilet (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford).

Paradiso and freshman Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) teamed up for an 8-0 sweep at No. 3 doubles. Paradiso, ranked 19th in the East Region, added a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over junior Erica Micciche (Framingham, Mass./Framingham). Kump collected a 6-0, 6-1 victory over sophomore Allison Gorman (East Providence, R.I./East Providence) at No. 6 singles.

Senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) rounded out the six double-winners for Stonehill, starting with an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles. Martin added her tenth-straight singles win with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over sophomore Meg Hall (Pembroke, Mass./Notre Dame) at No. 4.  Haedrich didn't drop a game in claiming a 6-0, 6-0 victory over sophomore Melanie McCauley (Charlestown, R.I./Chariho) at No. 5 singles.

Stonehill (15-2, 8-0 NE-10) is off until next Thursday when it hosts Southern New Hampshire University, ranked seventh in the East Region, for a big NE-10 clash that will go a long way towards determining the regular season conference championship on Purple & White Day at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. Assumption (2-11, 1-5 NE-10) hosts American International College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
