Paradiso Named NE-10 Player and Rookie of the Week

Birmingham, Mich., native honored following strong start to collegiate career

EASTON, Mass. (September 18, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Player and Rookie of the Week for women's tennis by the league office this afternoon.

Paradiso enjoyed a strong start to her collegiate career as Stonehill opened its season with a pair of Northeast-10 wins last week. She was a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play for the Skyhawks in a pair of 9-0 wins over Franklin Pierce University and Saint Anselm College.

Paradiso made her collegiate debut with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 1 singles over Franklin Pierce junior Natasha McCarthy after teaming up with senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) for an 8-0 sweep at No. 1 doubles. Paradiso followed that up with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Saint Anselm senior Alexandra Lawrence on Sunday after she and Frost won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Paradiso comes to Stonehill after a standout career at Marian High School in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., where she captured five individual state tennis championships and was part of Mustangs team that won a state championship her sophomore year. The three-time All-State performer won three singles state championships and two doubles titles over her career. She was also an honorable mention All-State selection as a freshman.

Stonehill (2-0, 2-0 NE-10) is back in action on Friday for a key in-region non-conference matchup at Philadelphia University at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks will then participate in the ITA East Regional Championships at the Arthur Ash Center Saturday through Monday in Philadelphia. Stonehill's next home match is not until Tuesday, October 9, when it hosts the University of New Haven for an NE-10 matchup at 3 p.m.
