Martin and Toegemann are double-winners to lead Skyhawks to fifth straight NE-10 Championship match appearance

EASTON, Mass. (April 18, 2013) – Second-seeded Stonehill College, ranked seventh in this week's NCAA Division II East Regional and sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region rankings, advanced to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship match for the eighth time in program history with a 5-0 shutout of third-seeded Saint Michael's College, ranked eighth in the region, in semifinal round action of the 2013 NE-10 Tournament at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Stonehill (19-3, 11-1 NE-10) will square off against top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University (16-7, 12-0 NE-10), ranked sixth in the region, for the NE-10 Championship for the fourth-straight year on Saturday in Manchester, N.H., at 1 p.m. The Penmen advanced to the title match for the fourth-straight year with a 5-2 victory over fourth-seeded Adelphi University in today's other semifinal. Saint Michael's closes its season with a 12-5 record overall, including a 10-2 clip in the NE-10, having qualified for the NE-10 Tournament for the 14th-straight year.

Junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) and freshman Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) led Stonehill to victory as double-winners. Martin clinched the win for the Skyhawks with her 15th-straight singles win by way of a 6-0, 6-2 decision over sophomore Caroline Toutoungi (Weston, Conn./Weston) at No. 5 singles. Martin and senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) combined to clinch a sweep of the three doubles matches with their hard fought 9-7 victory at No. 2.

Toegemann notched Stonehill's first singles point with her 6-2, 6-1 win over freshman Erica Bundrick (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) at second flight. Toegemann and senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit), the ninth-ranked doubles team in the East Region by the ITA, combined to claim the first point of the day for the Skyhawks with their come from behind 8-5 victory at No. 1. Toegemann and Frost fell behind 4-0 before rallying to knot the match at 4-4. Saint Michael's seniors Emily Magee (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) and Jean-Marie McGrath (Niwot, Colo./Alexander Dawson School) held to regain a 5-4 lead before the Skyhawks won the final four games to clinch the victory.

Freshmen Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) and Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) teamed up for Stonehill's remaining point with their 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles over Bundrick and Toutoungi. The Skyhawks also led in three of the four unfinished matches when Martin clinched the win with her victory at No. 5.
