Stonehill Claims Big Road Win at Saint Michael’s, 6-3

Skyhawks clinch No. 2 seed, first round bye, for upcoming NE-10 tournament

COLCHESTER, Vt. (April 11, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh in this week's NCAA Division II East Regional and sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region rankings, clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Tournament by claiming a 6-3 victory over Saint Michael's College, ranked eighth in the region, in NE-10 women's tennis action at Tarrant Recreation Center this afternoon.

Senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) and freshmen Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) and Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) were double-winners to lead Stonehill to victory. Frost and Toegemann, the ninth-ranked doubles team in the East Region, posted an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Paradiso and freshman Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) combined for a hard-fought and key 9-7 triumph at No. 3 as the Skyhawks claimed a 2-1 advantage after doubles play.

Paradiso, ranked 19th in the East Region, rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles over senior Emily Magee (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) to clinch the win for Stonehill. Toegemann swept to a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles over freshman Erica Bundrick (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck), while Frost posted a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 victory over sophomore Hannah Benoit (Mystic, Conn./Saint Bernard School) at No. 4 singles. Junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) also claimed a point for the Skyhawks with her 13th-straight singles win by rolling to a 6-2, 6-2 decision over sophomore Caroline Toutoungi (Weston, Conn./Weston) at No. 5.

Senior Alex Dalton (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) and sophomore Caroline Martin (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) were double-winners for Saint Michael's, combining to notch all three points for the hosts. The duo posted Saint Michael's lone doubles point with an 8-2 victory at No. 2. Dalton then added a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 3 singles over Stonehill sophomore Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy), while Martin rallied for a 1-6, 6-2, 10-6 decision over senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) at No. 6 singles.

Stonehill (17-3, 10-1 NE-10) closes out the regular season on Saturday when it hosts Merrimack College for an NE-10 match on Senior Day at 11 a.m. Saint Michael's (10-4, 9-2 NE-10) hosts Franklin Pierce University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
