Stonehill Cruises at Saint Anselm, 9-0

Freshman lead five Skyhawk double-winners

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 16, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked fifth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, swept its way to a second-straight victory to open the season after topping Saint Anselm College 9-0 in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action this afternoon.

Stonehill's freshmen led the way again, accounting for three of the Skyhawks five double-winners on the afternoon. Freshman Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles over Saint Anselm senior Alexandra Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy), the older sister of Stonehill sophomore Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy). Paradiso and senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) also rolled to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Frost later claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rachel Pedro (Weymouth, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) at No. 4 singles.

Stonehill freshman Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Saint Anselm's Kathryn Rindo at No. 2 singles. Kump and Meryl Lawrence claimed an 8-3 decision over Rindo and sophomore Kate Martin (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) at No. 2 doubles. Lawrence breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles to run her perfect record in combined NE-10 singles and doubles matches to 27-0.

Stonehill freshman Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) rounded out the double-winners with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles after combining with senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) for an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) posted a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (2-0, 2-0 NE-10) travels to face Philadelphia University on Friday for a non-conference match at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks next home match isn't until October 9, when it hosts the University of New Haven for a Conference clash at 3 p.m. Saint Anselm (0-2, 0-2 NE-10) is off until September 28 when it travels to the College of Holy Cross for a match at 3:30 p.m.
