Depth Leads Stonehill Past Ohio Dominican, 5-4

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 6, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, closed out its spring break schedule with a 5-4 victory over Ohio Dominican University in non-conference women's tennis action at Lake Cane Tennis Center today.

Senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) were both double-winners to lead the way for Stonehill. The duo combined for an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles as the Skyhawks took two of three doubles matches to send them on their way to victory. Both also cruised to singles wins with Martin winning 6-0, 6-1 over Ohio Dominican senior Krista Derry (Baltimore, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) at No. 5 singles, while Haedrich rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win over senior April Zaborsky (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) at No. 6.

Sophomore Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) clinched the win with her 6-4, 6-4 triumph over freshman Carla Leggett (Madrid, Spain) at No. 2 singles. Freshmen Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) and Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) combined for a point for the Skyhawks with their 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.

Senior Aline Mariano (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman Regina Camberos (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) were double-winners for Ohio Dominican. The tandem notched the Panthers lone doubles point with an 8-5 decision at No. 1. Mariano added a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Stonehill senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) at No. 3 singles, while Camberos topped Kump 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Samantha Zambrano (Monterrey, Mexico), the 12th-ranked singles player in the Midwest Region by the ITA, posted the Panthers remaining point with a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Paradiso, ranked 19th in the East Region, in a battle of regionally ranked players at No. 1 singles.

Stonehill (10-1, 5-0 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday, March 13, when it hosts College of the Holy Cross for a makeup match at 3 p.m. Ohio Dominican (8-13, 7-7 GLIAC) is back in action tonight for a match with Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville at 7 p.m.
