Toegemann and Frost lead Skyhawks as double-winners

WALTHAM, Mass. (April 9, 2013) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in both the NCAA Division II and Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, claimed a 7-2 victory over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action this afternoon.

Senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) and freshman Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) led Stonehill to the win as double-winners. The duo, ranked ninth in the ITA East Regional doubles rankings, claimed an 8-3 victory at the top flight as the Skyhawks took two of the three doubles matches. Frost added a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles over Bentley sophomore Melanie Scott (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug), while Toegemann registered a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over senior Rachael Litton (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) at No. 2.

Freshmen Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian) and Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) posted an 8-4 decision for Stonehill at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) posted a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over freshman Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) for Stonehill. Junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) ran her winning streak to 12 matches with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over freshman Brittani Hetyei (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) at No. 5 singles, while senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) notched a 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 10-5 decision at No. 6 singles over sophomore Stephania Adondakis (Salt Lake City, Utah/Waterford School).

Freshman Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) earned a point at No. 1 singles for Bentley with a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) triumph over Paradiso, ranked 19th in the East Regional singles rankings. Litton and senior Paulina Sotomayor (San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Reagan) combined for the Falcons lone point in doubles play with their 8-3 victory at No. 2.

Stonehill (16-3, 9-1 NE-10) is right back in action on Thursday when it visits Saint Michael's College, ranked ninth in the region, for a key NE-10 matchup at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks return home for its final regular season match of the season as it hosts Merrimack College on Saturday at 11 a.m. Bentley (8-7, 7-3 NE-10) visits Saint Anselm College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
