Achtyl Named NEWHA Player of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (November 7, 2023) – Sophomore forward Maddison Achtyl was named the New England Women's Hockey Alliance's (NEWHA) Player of the Week the league announced on Tuesday.

Over the past weekend, Stonehill swept its two-game series against conference opponent Saint Michael's College. On Friday, the Skyhawks flew past the Purple Knights by a final score of 6-1, before sneaking past Saint Michael's in overtime on Saturday, 6-5.

Achtyl had a career weekend, tallying five total points off three goals and two assists, while posting a +3 rating against the Purple Knights. The Buffalo, N.Y., native came up clutch with the shorthanded game-winning goal in overtime on Saturday, capping off her first career four-point game. After the stellar two-game weekend, Achtyl now ranks in the top-five on the NEWHA leaderboards with six goals and 10 points on the season.

This award marks Achtyl's second career NEWHA weekly recognition after she was named the Rookie of the Week a season ago on January 10th, for her weekend performance against Franklin Pierce University.

Stonehill (6-6-0, 6-2-0 NEWHA) travel to Fairfield, Connecticut this weekend to face off against conference opponent Sacred Heart University. Puck drop of Friday's series opener between the Skyhawks and Pioneers is set for 2 P.M.
