EASTON, Mass. (March 10, 2024)—The New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Champion Stonehill College women's ice hockey team has officially received its first NCAA Tournament bid in program history in just its second year of existence, the NCAA National Collegiate Selection Committee announced today.

Stonehill (21-15-2, 17-9-2 NEWHA) will open its first NCAA Tournament with a first-round matchup against Cornell University (24-7-1, 17-5-0 ECAC) in a game hosted by Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, on Thursday at 7 p.m. The winner of Thursday night's matchup at Class of 1965 Arena will advance to face host Colgate (31-6-1, 18-4-0 ECAC) in the second round on Saturday at 3 p.m. All games this weekend will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and ticket information will be announced once available.

Stonehill, led by first year head coach Lee-J Mirasolo, enters the NCAA Tournament after earning the NEWHA automatic bid with its 3-2 overtime triumph over Franklin Pierce University in Saturday's NEWHA Championship for the first title in the program's second year of competition after being added as the College's 23rd varsity sport in 2019.

Stonehill joins the University of Connecticut (25-7-5, 19-4-4 HOCKEY EAST) as the two teams to earn bids into the 2024 NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. The Skyhawks are also the lone team in the greater Boston area to receive a bid to the tournament.

Thursday will also mark the first-ever meeting between Stonehill and Cornell. Previously, the Skyhawks have faced off against two ECAC Hockey opponents, including Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Brown University.

The winners of each of the four regionals this weekend will advance to the NCAA Frozen Four, hosted by the University of New Hampshire at the Frederick B. Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex in Durham, New Hampshire, on March 22 and 24.
