SHELTON, Conn. (January 6, 2024) – The Stonehill College women's ice hockey team earned its third two-game weekend sweep of the season after shutting out Post University, 4-0, Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Skyhawks improve 10-12 overall and 10-6 in NEWHA play, while the Eagles fall to 4-18 overall and 4-12 against conference opponents.

Highlights

How it Happened

  • Stonehill came out of the gates strong in the first period, outshooting Post 14-5 in the frame and taking a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
  • Slocum got the scoring started just over five minutes into the contest after retrieving a loose puck off a faceoff win by sophomore Brianna Walkom and sending a shot over Glasrud's shoulder and into the back of the cage.
  • At the 16:34 mark of the opening frame, Wise and Turcotte connected on a two-on-one break into the offensive zone to double the Skyhawks lead to 2-0.
  • Geist would cap off the scoring in the first period after breaking away from a pile-up in the corner and sending a low shot under the pads of the Eagles netminder with 1:58 left on the clock to extend Stonehill's advantage to a three-goal lead.
  • Coming out of the break, both sides would go back and forth until late in the frame, where Stone would have to come up clutch in net, stifling a shorthanded breakaway opportunity from first-year student Dani Ammons.
  • With the clutch late save in the second, Stonehill would hold on to its three-goal lead and take it into the second intermission.
  • Sacca capped off the scoring for the Skyhawks at the 12:02 mark of the third and final frame of regulation after sneaking a shot off the blue line past the Eagles netminder, sealing the 4-0 shutout victory for Stonehill.

  • Stonehill outshot Post 43-23, while also dominating the faceoff battle, 30-13.
  • Stone secured her third shutout of the season – second in a row – and fifth of her career, setting a new program record for most shutouts in a single season.
