Mendeszoon Earns NEWHA Player of the Week Honors

EASTON, Mass. (January 17, 2024) – Junior forward Josie Mendeszoon was named the New England Women's Hockey Alliance's (NEWHA) Player of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

Mendeszoon had a strong weekend distributing the puck during Stonehill's two-game weekend set against Assumption. The junior forward dished out a team-high four assists and finished with a plus-three on-ice rating. Over the last six games, Mendeszoon leads her squad with seven points (0-7-7) and a plus-nine rating. She is also tied for third in the NEWHA with 11 assists while leading the conference at plus-12.

The Methuen, Mass., native becomes the squad's seventh NEWHA weekly award recipient this season and marks Mendeszoon's first weekly career recognition. Also earning weekly awards have been senior captain Grace Parker, junior goaltender Hanna Zukow, sophomore Maddison Achtyland first-year classmates Pusle Dyring-Andersen and Makenna Slocum

Stonehill (11-13-0, 11-7-0 NEWHA) returns to action next weekend, traveling to South Burlington, Vermont, to match up against conference opponent Saint Michael's College. Puck drop of Friday's series opener between the Skyhawks and Purple Knights is set for 7:10 p.m. at the Cairns Arena.
