Women's Hockey Drops Home Opener to Maine

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (October 6, 2023) – The Stonehill College women's ice hockey team dropped its home opener at the Bridgewater Ice Arena, 7-0, to the University of Maine on Friday night.

  • First-year defender Ashley Kokavec scored her first two career goals for Maine, while first-year student Mikayla Boarder found the back of the net for the first time of her young career.

How it Happened

  • Maine wasted little time getting the offense rolling, scoring four goals in the opening eight minutes of the contest to take a commanding 4-0 lead into the first intermission.
  • The Black Bears tacked one more goal on the board at the 16:56 mark of the second period after Guay found the back of the net for her second goal of the game.
  • Despite outshooting Maine 14-9 in the middle frame, Stonehill was unable to break through, heading into the break trailing 5-0.
  • Zukow came up clutch early in the third, making five saves within the opening three minutes of the final frame of regulation.
  • However, the Black Bears would find the back of the net in the middle minutes of the third, as Seregely and Kuoppala registered their first goals of the season to secure the 7-0 victory for Maine.
