Slocum Named NEWHA Rookie of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (November 28, 2023) – First-year forward Makenna Slocum was named the New England Women's Hockey Alliance's (NEWHA) Rookie of the Week the league announced on Tuesday.

Stonehill traveled to Maryland Heights, Missouri, over this past Thanksgiving weekend to match up against non-conference opponent Lindenwood in a two-game set. Despite, dropping both contests to the Lions, Slocum highlighted the Skyhawks offense dishing out a pair of assists and tripling her season total of assists in just two games. The Ajax, Ontario native, helped her linemate, sophomore Alexis Petford, score her fifth and sixth goals of the season.

This award marks Slocum's first career NEWHA weekly recognition and the team's sixth of the year. Also, earning weekly awards this season has been senior captain Grace Parker, junior goaltender Hanna Zukow, sophomore Maddison Achtyl, and first-year Pusle Dyring-Andersen.

Stonehill (7-11-0, 7-5-0 NEWHA) returns to action next weekend for a split two-game series against conference opponent Franklin Pierce. Puck drop of Friday's series opener between the Skyhawks and Ravens is set for 7 p.m., at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.
