Women’s Track & Field Posts Five Top-Five Finishes at BU Valentine Invitational

Colarusso led the way with a top five finish in the pole vault

BOSTON, Massachusetts (February 14, 2020) – The Stonehill College women's track & field saw five top-10 finishes at the BU David Hemery/Valentine Invitational Friday afternoon at the BU Track & Tennis Center.

Highlights:

  • Ashley Colarusso earned a top five finish in the pole vault with a personal best mark of 11 feet, 6.25 inches. She tied for fourth out of 37 competitors. This moves her up to second on the Northeast-10 Conference performance list. Freshman Haley Lightbody finished 12th as she cleared a height of 11 feet, 6.25 inches and sophomore Alexandra Sexton finished 14th with a season best mark of 11 feet, 0.25 inches.
  • Madison Ward placed in the top 10 of the high jump finishing with a height of 5 feet, 5 inches for a ninth-place mark. Kathleen Giusti cleared 5 feet, 3 inches, good for 16th out of 46 competitors.  
  • Out of 46 competitors in the shot put, senior Shayla Lyons earned an eighth-place finish with a measurement of 43 feet, 10 inches. This was a career best for her as well as a new school record that she held previously. Classmate Elizabeth Balzarini placed 27th overall with a mark of 38 feet, 11.75 inches, while sophomore Krista Stracqualursi finished 34th throwing a mark of 37 feet, 5 inches.

  • Lyons broke her own school record in the shot put, as she finished eighth out of 46 competitors.
    Senior Alyssa Freeman clocked in the fastest time for a Division II competitor in the 1000-meter run, finishing 32nd out of 107 competitors with a personal best time of 2:57.68.
  • Two Skyhawks competed in the mile run, as Jillian Howard finished the event in 5:09.92, good for 130th place and Jordan Callahan ran the mile in a personal best time of 5:18.14, taking 178th home.
  • In the weight throw, Jesica Litwa placed 41st with a distance of 44 feet, 9.50 inches.
  • In the 60-meter hurdles preliminary invitational round, Zoe Smith finished 16th overall with a time of 9.07-seconds out of 27 competitors.
  • Sophomore Savanna Macaluso took home second in the 60-meter hurdles event clocking in a time of 9.17-seconds. Junior Casey Gannon finished 17th overall with her time of 9.38-seconds.
  • Out of 301 competitors, senior Sinead O'Brien ran a time of 26.76-seconds in the 200-meter run, good for 188th place.

Stonehill will look to defend its title at the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships during the two-day event next Thursday, February 20 and Friday, February 21 at the Reggie Lewis Track Center.
