Stonehill Places Seven on Winter NE10 Academic All-Conference Teams

EASTON, Mass. (April 15, 2020) – Stonehill College has placed seven of its winter student-athletes on the Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference teams for their performances on the field of play as well as the classroom.

Stonehill's seven student-athletes are the third highest in the conference for the winter programs, as selected by a pool of faculty athletic representatives, senior woman administrators and athletic communications directors. Stonehill's NE10 Championship winning teams of women's basketball and indoor track & field, as well as the ice hockey program combined for five of the seven selections, which also includes men's basketball senior All-American and NE10 Player of the Year Will Moreton.

Also earning NE10 Academic All-Conference honors from Stonehill are senior Grace Carter of the NE10 Champion women's basketball team, seniors Matthew Schoen, the NE10 Goaltender of the Year, and Cameron Wright of the NE10 Champion ice hockey team and seniors Jordan Callahan and Alyssa Freeman of the NE10 Champion women's track & field program. Rounding out the group is sophomore Nickolas McNamee of the men's track & field program.

Moreton, who has recorded a 3.48 cumulative grade point average as a finance major at Stonehill, earns NE10 Academic All-Conference honors for the first time after also collecting CoSIDA Academic All-District® accolades for the first time this season as well. He has also been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court following his junior year, and been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll six semesters, receiving Academic Distinction status each of the last four for having a semester GPA between 3.50 and 3.99, and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll five semesters for having a GPA above 3.20.

Moreton, the NE10 Player of the Year, earned a spot on the Division II Bulletin All-America team this season as well as All-East Region first team honors from both the NABC and D2CCA. The three-time All-NE10 performer, with first team accolades this season in guiding the Skyhawks to an NCAA Tournament bid after being selected to the second team as a sophomore and junior, led Stonehill in scoring, rebounding and assists for the third-straight season this winter. He started all 114 games of his collegiate career, including 29 this season, averaging 18.9 points (7th NE10), 8.9 rebounds (6th), 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.8 blocked shots in 34.9 minutes per game (11th). Moreton leads the NE10 and ranks fourth nationally in Division II with his 8.0 defensive rebounds per game, while ranking second with 13 double-doubles (20th nationally). He shot 44-percent from the field, including 42.3% (77-for-182) from three-point distance (5th), converting 74.3% (104-140) of his free-throws.

Moreton, named an honorable mention selection to the D2EastHoops.org All-Decade Team, finished his career ranked fourth in program history with 1,841 points, while his 265 career three-point field goals is second in program history behind only Jon Cronin, '92's 308 threes. Moreton is a 44.5-percent shooter for his career, including 39.6% from three, shooting 77.7% from the free-throw line, while adding 851 rebounds, 274 assists, 131 steals and 79 blocked shots. He leads all active players in the NE10 for career points, which ranks 14th nationally in Division II, while ranking 12th among active players in Division II for rebounds, tenth with 32 career double-doubles and 14th for career three-pointers.

Carter, a political science major with a 3.67 cumulative grade point average, has also earned NE10 Academic All-Conference honors for the first time in her career. She received the NE10's Elite 24 Award for having the highest GPA at the NE10 Women's Basketball Championship last month and has been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll all seven semesters, receiving Academic Distinction recognition for having a semester GPA between 3.50 and 3.99 the last three semesters. She has received the Division II Athletic Director's Association (ADA) Academic Achievement Award the last two years for having a cumulative GPA above 3.50, been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll five semesters and earned the St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, Medal three-straight years for having the highest cumulative grade point average on the women's basketball team.

The senior captain started all 28 games for Stonehill this season, helping the Skyhawks to the NE10 Northeast Division title, NE10 Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament bid, averaging 8.7 points on 32.3-percent shooting, converting 80.6% (25-for-31) of her free-throws, with 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Carter led the Skyhawks in scoring four times this year, scoring in double-figures eight times, with 20-plus points in three games, netting a career-high 25 points, aided by 7-for-12 shooting from three-point distance, in a season-opening win over fellow NCAA Tournament participant Daemen College on November 8.

Carter started 78 of her 100 career games played and finished her career ranked sixth in program history with 168 three-pointers. She has also totaled 754 points, 237 rebounds and 106 steals over her career.

Schoen who has averaged a 3.67 GPA as he majors in finance and minoring in management information systems earns his first NE10 Academic All-Conference award after playing in 23 of 29 games this season. The senior goaltender tallied 59 goals against, 2.62 goals against average, 828 saves, .933 save percentage, all with a 12-7-3 record. Among the NE10 he finished first in games played, saves, save percentage, and wins, third in goals against average, and seventh in goals against. The senior earned his first honor from the NE10 as he was named NE10 Goaltender of the Year, Stonehill's fourth Goaltender of the Year, and tabbed on the NE10 All-Conference first team. Following the Championship game, the senior was named the NE10 All-Tournament Most Outstanding Player as well as tabbed on the NE10 All-Tournament Team.

Academically, the Tolland, Connecticut native has been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll six times, the Athletic Director's Honor Roll five times and the Dean's List. For the past two seasons, Schoen was also selected as an American Hockey Coaches' Association All American Scholar and Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award winner.

Wright who averaged a 3.45 cumulative GPA through the winter season while majoring in finance with a minor in management information systems earns his first NE10 Academic All-Conference honor after playing in all 29 games this season and like Schoen, assisted the Skyhawks to their third NE10 Championship in early March. The senior tallied career highs with 17 goals, 13 assists for a total of 30 points. He scored four power play goals to match a career high, tallied a career high three game-winning goals, and was first on the team in points. Among NE10 rankings, the senior was first in hat tricks, second in goals, third in points, 13th in power play goals, and 18th in assists. He earned his first recognition from the NE10 as he was voted for the All-Conference first team this season. Wright was one of five players to play in their 100th-career games this season and one of three Skyhawks to be named to the NE10 All-Tournament Team.

This past fall, the senior was named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll with Academic Honors bringing his total to five semesters and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll bringing this total to two semesters. He also received the 2018 Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award.

The ice hockey team earned their third NE10 Tournament Championship this season as it was their fifth appearance in the NE10 Championship game, as well as their 19th appearance in the NE10 Tournament since 1999. This was the second time in five years that the Skyhawks have been in the Tournament, the last time being in 2015-16 when the team won their second NE10 Championship as the highest remaining seed. The Skyhawks posted their first winning season since 2015-16 when the team went 13-9-4 overall and 5-1-2 in the NE10 and eighth season with a record of .500 or better as they went 13-11-5 overall and 8-6-4 in the Conference.

Freeman, who is double majoring in psychology and criminology, has average 3.60 in the classroom as she competes as a three-sport student-athlete in cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. This season she posted a season best time in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.51 at the NE10 Championship and then career bests in the 1000-meter run at the BU Last Chance Qualifier with a time of 2:55.56 and the mile at the NE10 Championships with a time of 5:05.01. She was named co-captain for track & field this year. At the NE10 Championship, she assisted the 4000-meter distance medley relay team to their 13th first-place finish in 19 years and third-straight season taking the title for a NE10 All-Conference first team honor. The senior also earned a third team honor in the mile. The Billerica, Massachusetts native added two NCAA Division II All-East Region team accolades to her four other track & field, bringing a career total to nine including her cross country honors.

This past winter, she was tabbed on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for her second award of her career. She has also been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll and Dean's List.

Callahan, who had a 4.0 GPA this past fall semester bringing her cumulative GPA to 3.81 as she majors in biology, earned her first NE10 Academic All-Conference accolade. This season she posted career best times in the mile, the 3000-meter and 5000-meter runs. At the BU David Hemery Invitational, Callahan clocked in a time of 5:18.14, at the BU Last Chance Qualifier she dropped 21 seconds from her previous career best with a time of 10:14.58 in the 3000-meter. At the NE10 Championship in the 5000-meter run, she dropped 17 seconds for a time of 17:53.65, where she earned NE10 All-Conference second team and then third team in the 3000-meter run. In the 3000- and 5000-meter runs, she earned her fourth and fifth USTFCCCA All-East Region team honors. Callahan was named captain for the cross country season.

Academically, the Plymouth, Massachusetts native was selected for the Stonehill College SURE Program as a research assistant last summer. This past cross country season, Callahan earned her first USTFCCCA All-Academic team honor. She has also been named to the NE10 Academic and Athletic Director's Honor Rolls and Dean's List. She is a two-time recipient of the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award.

Both Freeman and Callahan assisted the Skyhawks to their seventh-straight NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship. With the indoor title, the Skyhawks have now won 14-straight NE10 Championships including cross country, indoor & outdoor track & field. Over the past 20 NE10 Championships, Stonehill women have won 19.

McNamee, a history major with a 3.72 cumulative grade point average, earns NE10 Academic All-Conference honors for the second time in his career with his first selection for the indoor track & field season. He also earned NE10 Academic All-Conference honors following the cross country season in the fall and is a two-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic performer who has been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll all three semesters to date. McNamee also received a St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, Medal for the first time his spring for having the highest cumulative GPA on the cross country team.

McNamee is a five-time USTFCCCA All-East Region performer over his first two years, earning the honors for the one mile run this winter for the second-straight year after posting a personal-best time of 4:12.21 at the Boston University Last Chance Meet in February. He is also a six-time All-NE10 performer, with a pair of awards at the 2020 NE10 Indoor Championships in February, finishing third in the mile (4:17.43) and was also a member of the Skyhawks second place 4x800-meter relay (7:53.45). McNamee's sophomore season also included All-New England honors for the mile, finishing fourth at the New England Indoor Championships (4:12.48).

With 23 intercollegiate sports after announcing the addition of women's swimming for the 2020-21 academic year and women's ice hockey for 2021-22, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. Stonehill has won the Northeast-10 Conference Presidents' Cup five times, all coming within the last 14 years. The Skyhawks have received the NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Achievement each of the first nine years of the program's existence of honoring institutions with an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90-percent or better. Stonehill has earned a 95% Academic Success Ranking (ASR) by the NCAA, which considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes, good for tenth among all NCAA Division II institutions, with nine Skyhawk teams receiving a perfect rating of 100%.
