Women’s Track & Field Competes At URI Coaches Tribute

Skyhawks saw 10 personal bests

KINGSTON, Rhode Island (February 8, 2020) – The Stonehill College women's track & field team competed at the URI Coaches Tribute Invitational on Saturday at the Mackal Fieldhouse, hosted by the University of Rhode Island.   

Highlights:


  • Lyons placed third in the shot put with a mark of 41 feet, 11.25 inches
    Madison Ward and Kathleen Giusti both finished in the top-five of the high jump. Ward cleared a height of 5 feet, 3 inches for second place, while Giusti came in fourth with a mark of 5 feet, 1 inch.
  • After finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles preliminary round with her time of 9.03-seconds, Zoe Smith finished third with a time of 9.04-seconds in the finals. Smith just missed out on the 60-meter sprint finals with her ninth-place finish out of 42 competitors and a time of 8.11-seconds.
  • Savanna Macaluso and Casey Gannon also qualified for the 60-meter hurdles final as Macaluso finished fifth with a time of 9.17-seconds in the preliminary round and Gannon clocked in a time of 9.37-seconds and seventh place. Macaluso then took home fifth in finals with a time of 9.13-seconds and Gannon finished eighth.
  • Shayla Lyons led the way for the Skyhawks in the shot put with her third-place finish and a measurement of 41 feet, 11.25 inches. Krista Stracqualursi was the next Skyhawk to place with a seventh-place finish and a personal best mark of 40 feet, 3.25 inches.
  • In the pole vault, Alexandra Sexton took home third with her mark of 10 feet, 11.75 inches.
  • Ashley Colarusso placed 20th out of 45 competitors with a personal best time of 27.64-seconds in the 200-meter finals
  • Claire Hurtado and Claire Mason both finished in the top-10 of the 400-meter run, as Hurtado finished eighth with a time of 1:02.02 and Mason finished ninth clocking in a personal best time of 1:02.04. Sinead O'Brien wasn't far off as she placed 11th out of 24 competitors with a personal best time of 1:02.78.
  • In the 800-meter run, Jenna French was the top Skyhawk with her time of 2:30.61, finishing 13th out of 20 runners.
  • Jillian Callahan took home a top-10 finish in the 3000-meter run as she was the first Division II runner across the finish line with a time of 10:52.32 taking sixth overall.
  • Freshman Haley Lightbody finished eighth in the long jump with a personal best distance of 17 feet, 6.25 inches.
  • In the weight throw, Jesica Litwa earned a top-10 mark with her throw of 48 feet, 4 inches.

Stonehill will compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday, February 14 at the BU Track & Tennis Center, hosted by Boston University for their final meet before preparing for the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship.
