Women’s Track & Field Staff Named NE10 Coaching Staff of the Year

Delgado, in his first season of leading the team, earned his first NE10 Championship with the women's team

NE10 Announces Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Award Recipients

EASTON, Massachusetts (April 8, 2020) – The Stonehill College women's track & field coach staff was named the Northeast-10 Conference Coaching Staff of the Year on the women's side.

The coaching staff includes men's and women's track & field head coach Michael Delgado who focuses on throws hurdles, horizontal jumps and men's multi events, assistant coach Dan Schwartz who focuses on sprints, vertical jumps, and women's multi events, and then four assistant coaches who focus on distance including Karen Boen, Carl Boen, Dan Gordon '15, and Nicole Borofski '16.

Delgado, returned to Stonehill Athletics in August 2018 as the men's and women's cross country assistant coach, was promoted to Head Coach of the men's and women's track & field programs in June 2019. This season he led the women's team to their seventh-straight NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center in late February, this was his first NE10 Championship as the head coach.

This is Delgado's first honor from the NE10 and second Coach or Staff of the Year award, as he was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Coach of the Year in early March.

At the NE10 Championship, the coaching staff led the team to 11 individual All-Conference honors and one relay team accolade. Along with the All-Conference honors, Stonehill saw two first-place finishes, including freshman Haley Lightbody in the pole vault and the 4000-meter distance medley relay team consisting of seniors Alyssa Freeman and Claire Hurtado, junior Jillian Howard, and sophomore Claire Mason.

Stonehill also saw two NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field provisional qualifiers in Lightbody in the pole vault and senior Madison Ward in the high jump.

Stonehill concluded the indoor season with their seventh-straight NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship, where the women have now won 14-straight Championships with cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. Over the past 20 NE10 Championships, the Stonehill women have won 19 of them.
