Women’s Track & Field Wins Seventh-Straight Indoor NE10 Championship

Skyhawks total 11 individual All-Conference honors and one relay accolade

ROXBURY, Massachusetts (February 21, 2020) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team captured their seventh-straight Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship Friday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

The Skyhawks totaled 152.50 points, 54.5 points ahead of runner-up Assumption College who combined for 98 points. American International College took home third place with 97 points, while Southern New Hampshire University tallied 96 points, and Southern Connecticut State University rounded out the top five teams with 93 points.

Stonehill earned six individual All-Conference honors today for a total of 11 individual and one team relay accolade in the two-day meet.

With this title, the women have won seven-straight NE10 Indoor Championships and 14-straight championships, including cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. Over the past 20 NE10 Championships, the Stonehill women have won 19.


Freeman earned two All-Conference honors as she competed in three events 

Highlights:

  • In the high jump, Stonehill totaled 18.5 points, as senior Madison Ward led the way with a runner up mark and a height of 5 feet, 6 inches for an All-Conference honor. Junior Kathleen Giusti was the next Skyhawk as she placed fourth after clearing a height of 5 feet, 2.25 inches. Senior Zoe Smith followed her, taking home fifth with a mark of 5 feet, 0.25 inches, while junior Jessydoris Chinaenyeze tied for seventh clearing a height of 4 feet, 10.25 inches.
  • Shayla Lyons finished third in the shot put with a mark of 43 feet, 0.25 inches for an All-Conference honor. Elizabeth Balzarini also earned points for the Skyhawks as she placed seventh with a throw of 41 feet, 0.50 inches, while Krista Stracqualursi followed in eighth with a mark of 40 feet, 0.75 inches.
  • Senior Alyssa Freeman placed third in the mile as she clocked in a time of 5:05.01. Junior Jillian Howard was behind Freeman, finishing in fourth place with a time of 5:10.46. Sophomore Claire Mason also earned points for the Skyhawks as she finished sixth with a time of 5:15.03.
  • Smith earned an All-Conference honor in the 60-meter hurdles clocking in a personal best time of 8.83 seconds. Casey Gannon and Savanna Macaluso each ran in the finals as well, while Gannon ran the event in 9.23-seconds taking sixth and Macaluso ran a time of 9.25-seconds, good for seventh place.
  • In the 800-meter finals, Freeman ran a time of 2:19.81 in the 800-meter run, taking home fifth place.
  • Howard and Jordan Callahan earned All-Conference honors in the 3000-meter run as Howard clocked in second with a time of 10:39.17 and Callahan placed third with a time of 10:40.45. Sophia Anderle was next in fourth with a time of 10:42.24. Victoria Lombardi also earned points for the Skyhawks with a seventh-place finish and a time of 10:48.32.
  • The 4x800-meter relay team comprised of Jenna French, Kelly HigginsMason and Danika Wayss ran a time of 9:48.88 to finish fourth out of 10 teams.

Stonehill will open the outdoor season with the River Hawk Invitational, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell on March 28 at the Cushing Field Complex.
