Women’s Track & Field Leads After Day One at NE10 Championships

Skyhawks earn five individual and one relay All-Conference honors

ROXBURY, Massachusetts (February 20, 2020) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team is currently first with 66 points after six scoring events on day one of the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Stonehill leads the way in first place with 66 points, while Assumption College is second with 48 points and Southern New Hampshire University is third with 38 points. Adelphi University has totaled 24 points for fourth place, as Southern Connecticut State University rounds out the top five with 23 points.

Stonehill totaled five individual All-Conference honors and one relay team accolade.

Highlights:


  • The 4000-meter distance medley relay team placed first for the Skyhawks 3rd-straight title at the Championships
    The Skyhawks took home 24 points in the pole vault, as freshman Haley Lightbody was the individual champion with a personal best mark of 11 feet, 9.75 inches. This height also bypassed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark and puts her 50th. Senior Ashley Colarusso and junior Alexandra Sexton tied for second with as they cleared a height of 11 feet, 3.75 inches. All three earned All-Conference honors with their top-three finish. This is the second time in three years that a Skyhawk has taken home the individual title.
  • Lightbody also earned points in the long jump with her fifth-place finish and a measurement of 17 feet, 6.25 inches, this matched her personal best.
  • The 4000-meter distance medley relay team comprised of senior Alyssa Freeman, senior Claire Hurtado, sophomore Claire Mason, and junior Jillian Howard ran a time of 12:17.07 to take home the title. Freeman ran an unofficial 1200-meter time of 3:44.5 and then handed the baton off to Hurtado for an unofficial 59.4-second 400-meter split. Mason was the fourth leg, clocking in an unofficial time of 2:20.6 in the 800-meter leg, anchoring with Howard's unofficial time of 5:12.8 in the mile. This is the 13th time in 19 years and third-straight year that the Skyhawks have won the 4000-meter distance medley relay.
  • Senior Jordan Callahan led the way for the Skyhawks in the 5000-meter run and earned a NE10 All-Conference accolade with a time of 17:53.65, breaking her personal best by 17 seconds. She finished second out of 15 competitors. Her sister, freshman, Jillian Callahan ran a personal best time of 18:44.17, as sophomore Isabella Kennedy followed her in sixth place with a time of 19:11.65 as they both earned points for the Skyhawks.
  • In the weight throw, senior Shayla Lyons finished second out of 20 competitors for an All-Conference mark and a personal best throw of 50 feet. Classmate Jesica Litwa took home fourth with a throw of 48 feet, 6.25 inches.
  • Freeman also competed in the 800-meter preliminary round as she qualified for finals with a time of 2:19.81.
  • Junior Casey Gannon, senior Zoe Smith, and sophomore Savanna Macaluso all earned a spot in the 60-meter hurdles final.

Other Performances:

  • Smith competed in the 60-meter dash and ran a personal time of 7.99-seconds, good for 11th place, while Macaluso finished 19th with a personal best time of 8.20-seconds.
  • Freshman Jenna French finished 11th overall in the 800-meter preliminary round with a personal best time of 2:24.56. Senior Danika Wayss clocked in a personal best time of 2:25.82 as she placed 13th, and senior Kelly Higgins took home 17th with a time of 2:31.86.
  • Sophomore Krista Stracqualursi and senior Elizabeth Balzarini finished 15th and 16th respectively in the weight throw. Stracqualursi threw a distance of 36 feet, 4.25 inches, while Balzarini reached a personal best mark of 36 feet, 1.50 inches.
  • In her first attempt competing in the pentathlon, junior Jessydoris Chinaenyeze totaled 2173 points. She finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 3.25 inches and fourth in the high jump clearing a height of 4 feet, 10.25 inches. She also finished 10th in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 1.50 inches, 11th in the 60-meter hurdles clocking in a time of 11.45-seconds, and 12th in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:34.04.

Stonehill returns to action tomorrow, Friday, February 20 for day two of the NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center. The remaining heptathlon events begin at 11:00 a.m., while the field events start at noon and the track events begin at 12:30 p.m.
