Siaba finishes championship with three All-NE10 performances, earns Field Athlete of the Meet honors

DORCHESTER, Mass. (February 21, 2020) – The Stonehill College men's track & field program posted six All-Conference performances and finished fifth in the team standings as the 2020 Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships concluded today at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Sophomore Michel-Ange Siaba led Stonehill with three All-Northeast-10 performances himself, adding a second-place finish in the triple jump and third place in the heptathlon today after finishing second in the long jump on Thursday. He scored 21.5 points in three events, including the heptathlon, for the Skyhawks over the two days and was honored with the Championship's Field Athlete of the Meet Award for his efforts, marking the program's first such recognition since former All-American and indoor high jump National Champion Corey Thomas, '13 won his second of two Outstanding Athlete Awards after the 2011 NE10 Indoor Championship.

Siaba accounted for nearly a third of Stonehill's 69.5 points, which placed the Skyhawks fifth in the team standings after the two-day Championship. Southern Connecticut State University won the team title for the fourth-straight year and 15th time in program history with 242.5 points, outdistancing second-place American International College (132 points) by over 110 points, while Assumption College (84) took third and University of New Haven (72) fourth.

Siaba's second place finish in the triple jump this afternoon came with a distance of 46-feet, 6.75-inches. He cleared the distance on his first attempt. He also finished second in the long jump on Thursday with a school-record distance of 23-feet, 1.75-inches, breaking an 11-year old school mark.

Siaba competed in nine total events over the two-day championship posting a third-place finish in the heptathlon to go with his two All-NE10 honors in the two open jumps events. He added a second school-record on the weekend by scoring 4,666 points in the heptathlon to finish tied for third with Southern Connecticut State junior Dan Brown. Southern senior Philip Quaye won the event for the third-straight year with 4,785 points.

Siaba broke the previous school record of 4,511 points in the heptathlon set by Dana Burbank, '07 at the 2007 New England Indoor Track & Field Championships at the BU Track and Tennis Center. Siaba, who finished first in the long jump (21-feet, 11.75-inches) on Thursday, to go with second place finishes in the 60-meter dash (7.30-seconds) and shot put (39-2.50), started day two of the event with a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.83-seconds to add 784 points to his day one score of 2,769. He scored 369 points with his pole vault of 10-feet, even, and then capped the heptathlon with a third-place finish in the 1000-meter run in 2:52.08 for 744 points.

Sophomore Nickolas McNamee earned a pair of All-NE10 honors for Stonehill on Friday as well. He started with a third-place finish in the one mile run in 4:17.43, marking his first individual All-NE10 honor for indoor track & field (three total for indoor) and sixth of his career overall across five seasons (two cross country, two indoor and one outdoor) so far.

McNamee also earned All-NE10 honors by anchoring Stonehill's 4x800-meter relay to a second-place finish in a season-best 7:53.45. Also earning All-Conference honors for their efforts on the relay were senior Jeremy Breen, junior Christopher Lanahan and freshman Noah Drapeau.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay also turned in an All-NE10 performance with a third place finish out of the second finals section with a season-best time of 3:25.29. Earning All-NE10 honors for their efforts were sophomores Jack Bowers and Anthony Magazzu and freshmen Jeremiah Kidd-Taylor and Sam Anderson.

  • Senior Collin Kuchachik led two from Stonehill in the 60-meter high hurdles final, finishing fourth in 8.77-seconds after qualifying sixth in Thursday's prelims in 8.82-seconds. Freshman Jake Dwyer finished eighth in today's final in 8.88-seconds after qualifying eighth yesterday in 8.83.
  • Junior Kevin Wheelock scored for Stonehill with a sixth-place finish in the 3000-meter run in 8:39.51. Senior Sean Conlan placed tenth in the field of 24 runners in a personal-best 8:50.82, while junior Chris McCaffrey was 12th in 8:55.11 and freshman Colin Black finished 13th in a personal-best 8:58.23.
  • Sophomore Cameron Bernard also scored for Stonehill in the triple jump, placing sixth with a personal-best distance of 43-feet, 6-inches. Anderson placed tenth out of 14 competitors at 41-8.75.
  • Sophomore Evan Kennedy finished eighth in the 800-meter run final this afternoon with a time of 2:06.76. He had clinched the eighth and final qualification spot in Thursday's prelims in 1:58.61, good for third in his section.
  • Freshman Tyler Thomas placed 18th out of 23 entries in the shot put final today with a distance of 39-feet, 8.5-inches.
