Kennedy Receives NE10 Elite 24 Award for Men’s Outdoor Track & Field

South Windsor, Connecticut, sophomore honored for having highest cumulative GPA among all NE10 Outdoor Track & Field athletes

NE10 Announces Spring 2020 Elite 24 Award Winners

EASTON, Mass. (May 4, 2020) – Stonehill College sophomore Evan Kennedy has been recognized for his efforts in the classroom by receiving the Northeast-10 Conference's Elite 24 Award for having the highest cumulative grade point average among all NE10 Men's Outdoor Track & Field student-athletes.

The Elite 24 Award honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating at the finals site at each NE10 Championship. Due to the shutdown of spring sports because of the COVID-19 pandemic, no league championships are being played. Instead, the Elite 24 Award winners are determined by comparing the GPA of all student-athletes throughout the NE10 on a sport-by-sport basis. These student-athletes represent the true essence of NE10 student-athletes earning it every day we are proud to recognize their efforts. The inaugural year for the Elite 24 Award was the 2018-19 season.

Kennedy is the first Stonehill men's track & field student-athlete to receive the Elite 24 Award and the third from the College overall, all of which have come during this academic year. Volleyball graduate Rachel Dunlavy, '19 was honored at the 2019 NE10 Volleyball Championships in November and senior Grace Carter received the honor at the 2020 NE10 Women's Basketball Championship.

Kennedy, a neuroscience major with a 3.98 cumulative grade point average at Stonehill, has been named to the NE10 Academic Honor Roll all three semesters to date, with Academic Excellence recognition for having a 4.0 semester GPA twice, and Academic Distinction status the remaining semester for having a GPA between 3.50 and 3.99. He has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all three semesters and earned the St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, Medal for having the highest cumulative GPA on the track and field program this spring.

Kennedy has been named to the Dean's List all three semesters and has been inducted into Nu Rho Psi neuroscience honor society. He is a two-time Excellence in Chemistry award recipient and was selected to participate in the Stonehill Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program this summer.

Kennedy is a two-year letterwinner as a middle-distance runner for the Stonehill track & field program. He qualified for the 2020 New England Indoor Track & Field Championships for the 800-meter run and 4x800-meter relay this past winter and finished eighth in the 800-meter run at the 2020 NE10 Indoor Championships (2:06.76).  Kennedy also won the 800-meter run at the University of Southern Maine Invite (1:59.77) in January and was fourth in the 800m (1:58.48) at the University of Rhode Island Coaches' Tribute Invitational in February.

Kennedy finished eighth in the 800-meter run (2:02.87) at the 2019 NE10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships to culminate his freshman season. He turned in a fifth-place finish in the 800m (1:58.09) at the Skyhawk Invitational.

Stonehill finished its 2019-20 season having posted a fifth-place team finish at the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship, led by five All-NE10 performances. The program also had three of its student-athletes earn a total of five All-East Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) and freshman Cameron Bernard named the NE10 Field Rookie of the Year.
