Siaba Earns Outstanding Field Performer at NE10 Indoor Championships

Brockton, Massachusetts, sophomore earned three All-NE10 honors, scored 21.5 points for Skyhawks at Championships

EASTON, Mass. (February 25, 2020) – Stonehill College sophomore Michel-Ange Siaba earned the Northeast-10 Conference's Outstanding Field Performer Award at the 2020 NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the Reggie Lewis Center for Track and Athletics, over the weekend.

Siaba, a transfer from Humboldt State University in California, enjoyed an outstanding debut for Stonehill at the NE10 Championships on Thursday and Friday. He earned three of the Skyhawks six All-NE10 performances over the Championships overall and accounted for 21.5 of the team's 69.5 points over the two days. Stonehill finished fifth in the team standings at the event. It marks the program's first such recognition since former All-American and indoor high jump National Champion Corey Thomas, '13 won his second of two Outstanding Athlete Awards after the 2011 NE10 Indoor Championship.

Siaba's first All-NE10 performance came with his second-place finish in the long jump on Thursday after completing the first four events of the heptathlon. He cleared a school-record 23-feet, 1.75-inches on his second attempt in the long jump to place second in the field of 23, narrowly missing the NCAA Division II Championships provisional mark of 7.13-meters. Siaba broke the previous school record of 22-feet, 10.75-inched by Tyler Guilmette, '09 at the University of Rhode Island in 2009.

Siaba also sat second in the heptathlon after the first day with 2,769 points, posting personal-bests in the 60-meter dash (7.30-seconds/2nd place/779 points) and shot put (39-feet, 2.50-inches/2nd/603) to go with a first place finish in the long jump (21-11.75 – 743 points).

Siaba finished off the heptathlon on Friday with his second All-NE10 performance, finishing third as he set a second program record with 4,666 points – 100 shy of the NCAA provisional mark. He broke the previous school mark of 4,511 points by Dana Burbank, '07 at the 2007 New England Indoor Track & Field Championships, adding a second place finish on Friday in the 60-meter hurdles (personal-best 8.83-seconds – 784 points) and then capped the event with a third place finish in the 1000-meter run (2:52.08 – 744).

Siaba's NE10 Championship concluded with his third All-NE10 honor of the event, finishing second out of 14 entries in the triple jump. He cleared a personal-best 46-feet, 6.75-inches on his first attempt on Friday that proved to be his best mark of the day.

Siaba has participated in nine events in his first season at Stonehill, competing indoor at the collegiate level for the first time. In addition to his personal-bests set at the NE10 Indoor Championships, he cleared a personal-best 10-feet, 2-inches in the pole vault at the USM Invitational on January 25 and clocked a personal-best 2:52.04 in the 1000-meters at the Harvard Multi on January 11.

Siaba competed for two outdoor seasons at Humboldt State prior to transferring to Stonehill, finishing seventh in the decathlon at the 2018 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Outdoor Championships with 5,130 points. He placed seventh in the triple jump at the 2019 CCAA Outdoor Championships with a distance of 44-feet, 9.5-inches.

Select members of the Stonehill track & field program are back in action on Friday for the BU Last Chance Meet, hosted by Boston University.
