Baseball Duo Highlights NE10 Postseason Awards

EASTON, Mass. (May 11, 2022)- Stonehill College baseball duo, Peter Haas and Blaine Lidsky were recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference on Wednesday with Hass being named the Northeast Division Rookie Pitcher of the Year and earning a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Meanwhile, Lidsky was named All-Conference First Team-Utility and Taylor Gaspar along with Jack Marshall earned spots on the All-Rookie Team as announced by the NE10 earlier this afternoon. 

Haas had a stellar rookie season for the Skyhawks as the freshman went 3-3, struck out 50 batters, averaged 10.47 strikeouts per nine innings, allowed nine walks, and finished with a sub 2.75 ERA (2.51). In six out of his seven starts, Hass struck out five or more batters including a career-high 11 in a win over The College of Saint Rose (March 20). Haas also had a stretch during the season where he allowed zero runs in back-to-back starts which resulted in a 16-4 win over American International College (March 11) and then against The College of Saint Rose (March 20).

Overall on the season, Hass led Stonehill in multiple pitching categories including ERA, strikeouts per nine innings, and complete games (two). He was also ranked within the top five in other categories such as strikeouts (second), walks (second), and innings pitched (third). Haas also earned NE10 Rookie of the Week three weeks in a row (March 7, March 14, and March 21) while also being named NE10 Pitcher of the week (March 7). 

In terms of the conference, Hass ranked in the top 10 in ERA (third), strikeouts per nine innings (seventh), and complete games (ninth).

Lidsky had a career year for Stonehill as the junior set new career-highs in the following: hits (64), doubles (14), triples (2), home runs (11), RBIs (46), and stolen bases (seven). His strong season also earned him National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II East Region Hitter of the Week honors (March 17) and NE10 Player of the Week (March 14) for the first time in his career. Lidsky was the team's best offensive student-athlete and led the squad in multiple offensive categories including batting average (.370), on-base percentage (.421), slugging percentage (.665), home runs, RBIs, hits, doubles, triples, stolen bases, and runs scored. 

As for the NE10, Lidsky finished as the conference leader in hits and was ranked within the top 10 in many categories such as home runs (second), RBIs (fourth), doubles (sixth), batting average (sixth), and slugging percentage (sixth).

Gaspar finished the year as one of eight Skyhawks to hit over .250 (.264) to go along with 29 hits, four of which were doubles, one was a triple, and he launched four home runs while he drove in 21 RBIs. The freshman outfielder had a career day against Southern Connecticut State University (April 16) where he led the largest comeback in program history with two home runs and seven RBIs. Overall on the year, he had seven multi-hit games including two three-hit contests (at Assumption University-April 12 and Southern Connecticut State University-April 16).

Marshall was one of four Stonehill batters to hit over .300 (.302) and tallied 42 hits, eight of the hits were doubles, and two were home runs. Marshall also was one of six Skyhawks to drive in 20 runs with 20 RBIs which ranked sixth on the team this season. Marshall's strongest game came against Southern Connecticut on April 16 when he went a perfect, 3-3 with one of his hits being his first career grand slam. Throughout the season, Marshall posted 12 multi-hit games including three three-hit contests. 

Stonehill wrapped up the season 18-29 and 7-17 in the NE10. With their 18 wins, it marked the 34th time the Skyhawks have recorded 15 or more wins and have done so for the past 25 of 26 straight seasons (2020 finished 8-5 due to COVID-19).
