EASTON, Mass. (April 2, 2022)- Between Luke Marshall from game one, and Jonathan Rice in game two, Stonehill College's two starters combined for 20 strikeouts in Saturday's Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader by the scores of 4-3 and 2-0.

Game one: Stonehill 4, Saint Michael's 3

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Saint Michael's got on the board first in the top of the second when Jose Martinez III hit an RBI single to give Purple Knights a quick 1-0 lead.
  • However, in the next inning at the bottom of the third, Farragher ripped a hard hit triple to right which scored Dennis Folan after he had doubled to lead off the inning.
  • Later in the fifth inning, the Skyhawks added on two more runs and took the lead (3-1). Gaspar got the scoring started in the inning when he launched a deep go-ahead home run to right field which made it 2-1. Later in the frame, Mike Swanholm collected an RBI single which brought home Noah Lucier after he doubled early on in the inning.
  • The Skyhawks added another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Gaspar notched his second RBI of the afternoon on a single to left to bring around Conor Kiely
  • Marshall was stellar for the Skyhawks on the day as he went seven innings and tied his career-high in strikeouts with ten (last: May 1, 2021, vs. Saint Anselm).
  • Saint Michael's ended up getting two runs back in the eighth to cut the deficit to one (4-3) which featured an RBI triple from Brady Perron.
  • Despite the Purple Knights pulling within one, Matt Tyman was lights out in the ninth retiring Saint Michael's one-two-three to secure his first save of the season.

Pitching Records:

Loss: Saint Michael's-Sean Birch (1-4)

Game two: Stonehill 2, Saint Michael's 0

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Game two was much more of a pitcher's duel as there were only six hits combined by both sides on the day.
  • In this game, it was Stonehill who struck first after Lucier used alert base-running and stole home. Saint Michael's starter, Jared Duquette attempted to pick off Jack Marshall at first but on the attempt, Lucier rushed home and beat the throw.
  • Stonehill added on one more run in the bottom of the second when Roberti sent a deep shot to right for his fourth home run of the season.
  • Jonathan Rice kept the Purple Knights offense at bay throughout the entire contest as he did not allow one hit through the first 6.1 innings of work. Overall on the day, Rice fanned a career-high ten batters including a stretch between the third and fourth where he struck out four out of the five batters he faced.
  • Saint Michael's finally broke into the hit column in the top of the seventh on a very close call at first that the Purple Knights runner just barely beat out Lucier's throw. After Sebastian Oetterer drew a walk, Billy Duff came in for Rice to secure the save for the Skyhawks.

Pitching Records:

Win: Stonehill-Jonathan Rice (1-1)

Loss: Saint Michael's-Jared Duquette (0-4)

Save: Stonehill-Billy Duff (two)
