EASTON, Mass. (May 8, 2022)- The Stonehill College baseball team concluded their regular season with a 4-1 Northeast-10 Conference victory over the Bentley University Falcons Sunday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.

Key Moments:

  • Prior to today's game, the team honored their four seniors and graduate student: Matt Farragher, Noah LucierLuke MarshallMatt Smith, and graduate student, Brandon Taylor. Thank you all for your contributions to both Stonehill baseball and Stonehill College!
  • Bentley struck first for a quick 1-0 lead after Tim Zupkus recorded an RBI single, but that would be all the Falcons score as Stonehill starter, Jonathan Rice quieted the Bentley bats the rest of the way. This also included a stretch from the third through the seventh where he retired 11-straight batters and two via strikeouts.
  • As Rice kept the Falcons bats quiet, Stonehill capitalized in the bottom of the first when Lidsky sent the ball to left field which allowed Lucier to score after he walked earlier in the frame.
  • In the fifth, the Skyhawks plated the go-ahead run after Lucier ripped a single to left field to bring home Mike Swanholm after he had a hard-hit single towards third in the beginning of the inning.
  • Stonehill continued their momentum in the next inning when Taylor hit a deep fly to left field far enough to allow Trey Ciulla-Hall to score (3-1) after he had doubled earlier.
  • During the seventh inning, the Skyhawks tacked on one more insurance run (4-1) after Farragher ripped a single through the left side which allowed Chris Roberti to cross the plate after a lead-off walk.
  • Rice ended the game by retiring the last four batters including back-to-back strikeouts in the eight. Rice finished the day with seven strikeouts making it the fourth time this season he struck out five or more batters. In his last two starts, Rice has only allowed four total hits, while averaging six strikeouts per contest (12 strikeouts in total).
