WALTHAM, Mass. (May 6, 2022)- The Stonehill College baseball dropped a pair of tightly-contested Northeast-10 Conference matchups against Bentley University on Friday afternoon at Robert DeFelice Field.

Game one: Stonehill 2, Bentley 5

Standout Performances:

Key Moments

  • Bentley jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after a Tim Zupkus RBI but from that point until the seventh, Stonehill starter, Brendan Kelly kept the Falcons at bay by not allowing a run. Kelly had a stretch at the end of the first and early in the third where he retired eight straight batters including two via strikeouts.
  • Stonehill responded in the bottom of the fourth when the squad plated two runs to reclaim the lead (2-1). After Lucier led off the inning with a double, Farragher ripped a double down the left-field line to bring home Lucier. Later in the inning, Marshall sent a deep fly ball to right, and despite it being caught, Farragher made his way home on the sacrifice fly.
  • The Skyhawks had a chance to add to their lead in the next inning after Lucier sent a single to right that moved up Ryan Douglas to third after he drew a walk earlier. Despite having runners on first and third with two outs, Bentley starter, Jared Brooks escaped Stonehill's threat after he induced a strikeout.
  • The Falcons broke things open in the seventh as they tacked on four runs which pushed their lead to three (5-2) that featured a two-run RBI triple by Eddy Beauregard which made it 4-2 at the time.

Pitching Records:

Win: Bentley-Jared Brooks (7-3)

Loss: Stonehill-Brendan Kelly (1-2)

Game two: Stonehill 5, Bentley 7

Standout Performances

Key Moments:

  • Bentley continued their momentum from game one as it tacked on seven runs throughout the first three innings including a four-run third.
  • Despite the large lead, Stonehill chipped away in the third and fourth when the purple and white cut the deficit to four (7-3). In the third, Kiely ripped an RBI single to single that plated Florio after he had doubled to lead off the inning.
  • In the fourth, the Skyhawks added two more runs courtesy of an RBI single from Kidder which brought home Blaine Lidsky after he singled earlier. In the next at-bat, Taylor Gaspar had a hard hit to the left side where the Falcons fielder misplayed the ball which allowed Zemotel to score.
  • Stonehill continued to pick at the Falcons lead in the sixth with another two-run inning that made the deficit just two (7-5). Lidsky led off the inning with a double and then Zemotel drove Lidsky in after he singled to left. Two batters later, Florio added on the Skyhawks' fifth run when sent a single back up the middle to allow Kidder to cross home after he had reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.
  • Down to their last chance in the seventh, Zemotel kept the inning alive with a two-out single. However, the Falcons held off the Skyhawks with a fly out for the 7-5 win.
