Stonehill Tops Dominican College In 13-12 Offensive Battle

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (February 27, 2022)- Despite being down by as many as four runs, the Stonehill College baseball team rallied and topped Dominican College (N.Y.) by a score of 13-12 Sunday at the Ripken Experience.

Key Moments:

  • After a scoreless three innings, the Chargers broke things open in the top of the fourth when Richard Paulino hit a grand slam to make it 4-0 early on. 
  • Stonehill ended up picking away at the lead in the next two innings and got the deficit down to one in the bottom of the fourth when the Skyhawks had a two-run fourth that included Swanholm driving in a run from a hard hit to the Chargers shortstop. 
  • However, in the top half of the fifth, Dominican College hit yet another grand slam courtesy of Brian Sanders to make it 8-3 Chargers.
  • Despite being down, Stonehill rallied again and tied things up between the fifth and sixth innings that saw a two-run homer by Lidsky in the fifth, and a two-run double by Brandon Taylor to make it 8-8 heading into the seventh. 
  • The Chargers again retook the lead after a three-run home run Ethan Sarmiento which made it 11-8. However, the lead was short-lived for Dominican College.
  • The Skyhawks utilized a five-run bottom of the eighth highlighted by a Swanholm grand-slam to make it 12-11, and then Ciulla-Hall added an insurance homer and made it 13-11 going into the final inning. 
  • Although Tyler Marshall gave up one run in the ninth (13-12), he shut the Chargers offense down to give Stonehill back-to-back wins.
