Stonehill Earns Split Against Franklin Pierce

EASTON, Mass. (April 23, 2022)- Stonehill College baseball and Franklin Pierce continued their Northeast-10 Conference four-game series Saturday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field with a doubleheader. The Skyhawks and Ravens split both games today, first Franklin Pierce took game one, 12-3, and then Stonehill responded in game two, 4-1.

Game one: Stonehill 3, Franklin Pierce 12

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Franklin Pierce got on the board early with back-to-back two-run innings that featured two-run RBIs from Charles Lebron in the first, and Randy Flores in the second. 
  • Stonehill responded in the bottom half of the second when Marshall ripped a single to right field that scored Lidsky after he sent a triple to deep right. 
  • The Ravens again posted another two-run inning when Ryan Lavelle recorded the third two-run RBI of the contest for Franklin Pierce to make it 6-1. 
  • After Franklin Pierce added on another run in the fourth (7-1), the Skyhawks got another run back in the bottom of the fourth (7-2) when Taylor sent a single to center field that plated Marshall who reached on a throwing error earlier in the frame. 
  • However, the Ravens broke things open in the fifth when they added five more runs which made it 12-2 featuring a two-run RBI double from Ian Battipaglia
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Skyhawks got one run back (12-3) when Farragher capitalized on a passed ball and came home. Despite the run, the Ravens kept Stonehill at bay the rest of the way to hold on for the win.

Key Moments:

  • In game two, it was Stonehill who struck first after Ciulla-Hall recorded a two-run RBI single that went to left which scored both Lidsky and Farragher. Farragher was hit by a pitch and Lidsky hit a single the following at-bat. 
  • The Skyhawks continued their momentum in the bottom of the second when they tacked on two more runs after Lucier sent a single back up the middle and brought home Gaspar who singled earlier, and Chris Roberti who had taken advantage of an error at thrid. 
  • Franklin Pierce cut the deficit to three (4-1) when Lebron drove in the Ravens' lone run on the afternoon. 
  • From that point on, Stonehill starter, Matt Smith fanned 10-straight batters from the bottom of the fourth until the top of the seventh. In that stretch, Smith collected four of his six strikeouts on the afternoon. After Franklin Pierce placed runners on first and second with two outs in the seventh, Smith grabbed the final out on a flyout to left.
