WORCESTER, Mass. (February 23, 2022)- The Stonehill College men's hockey team wrapped up regular season play when they traveled to Assumption University for Northeast-10 Conference action as the squad fell 3-1 Wednesday afternoon at the Worcester Ice Center.

The Details:

  • Both sides went back and forth early on and Stonehill had a chance to grab an early lead when they drew a power play just under eight minutes left in the first (7:51). The Skyhawks peppered Greyhounds goalie, David Altman with three shots from Mike Seoane, and back-to-back ones by John Peloso by Brendan Nehmer but was stopped each time.
  • However, Assumption struck first as Dante Maribito scored a short-handed goal with 6:45 left in the first to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead.
  • Stonehill quickly responded at the start of the second period (19:02) when Jake Cady potted his fourth goal of the season after he received a great lead pass from Kyle Heath
  • After Cady's goal, the second period was much more tightly contested as both sides were locked in a defensive battle. Stonehill goalie, Chase McKay preserved the tie for the rest of the period and made eight of his 32 saves during the frame. His 32 saves marked the fifth time this season he made 30 or more saves.
  • Assumption ultimately broke the 1-1 draw at 7:00 in the third when Maribito scored his second goal of the afternoon. Maribito corralled his missed shot on McKay and ended up sneaking it past McKay on the rebound. The Greyhounds added one more goal just 33 seconds later (6:27) when Devan Sheth received the puck after Ronny Paragallo's face-off win to make it 3-1.
