Men's Hockey Downed By Franklin Pierce, 5-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (January 28, 2022)- The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team hosted Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference (NE10) action Friday night, but unfortunately could not come up with the win falling to the Ravens, 5-0 Friday evening at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.

Day came in midway through the second and only allowed one goal in 36:43 of action (Photo Courtesy: Mike Tureski).

The Details:

  • Both sides had gone back and forth for the opening 13 minutes as both sides each recorded seven shots apiece before Franklin Pierce scored first. At 13:09, Stephen Jacobs sent a shot on the net that knuckled its way past Stonehill goalie, Chase McKay for the early 1-0 Ravens lead.
  • However, after the goal, the Skyhawks peppered Ravens netminder Ian Wallace with 10 shots but could not find the back of the net. Franklin Pierce capitalized on their early momentum though as the first period was about to end (00:32) when Chris Stevenson sent a shot past McKay after he received a pass from Paul Antkowiak to make it 2-0 to close out the first.
  • Franklin Pierce ended up utilizing a three-goal third period that helped the Ravens ultimately put the game away as the Ravens saw goals from Jacobs again (18:32), Ryan Gorbett (17:43), and Vito Carlo (3:35) to give them the 5-0 win.
  • Despite the three-goal period, Stonehill had a key opportunity as they had a five on three power-play chance, but were not able to capitalize as Wallace continued to make key saves including two of John Peloso's team-leading five shots.
  • On the evening, McKay recorded 16 saves on 20 shots in 23:17 of action before John Day came in for the final 36:43 and had a strong outing relief as he made 18 saves on 19 shots. For the visitors, Wallace stopped 26 shots.
