Power Play Goal Lifts Southern N.H. Past Men’s Ice Hockey, 3-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (November 20, 2021) - Southern New Hampshire University got a pair of goals from freshman Connor Ball, but it was a power play tally from junior Ryan Coady early in the third period that proved to be the difference in a 3-2 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's ice hockey action at Bridgewater Ice Arena this evening.

The Details

  • Coady's gamewinner 3:05 into the third period countered two Stonehill goals late in the second. He took a pass from senior JT Kossakowski and spun up ice before scoring the deciding power play goal.
  • Kossakowski also registered 23 saves in the SNHU goal to go with his assist on the deciding goal. Junior John Day finished with 26 saves in the Stonehill goal, including ten each in the second and third periods.
  • Senior Joshua Loveridge had a hand in both Stonehill goals late in the second period with two assists, as the Skyhawks answered Ball's two goals within the final two minutes of the first period.
  • Ball opened the scoring with just 1:11 to play in the first period when he struck off a Stonehill turnover in the defensive end. He followed up just 66-seconds later off a pass from junior Andrew Ray with just 5.2-seconds remaining in the period.

    Stonehill rallied with two second period goals over the last five minutes, starting with freshman Jake Cady scoring his second goal of the year from sophomore Drew Gardner and Loveridge with 4:09 left in the period.
  • The Skyhawks drew level with 47-seconds left in the second, and just seconds into a powerplay as sophomore Max Pineo fired in his second goal of the year from the point after working a give and go with Loveridge.

Stonehill (2-5-1, 2-2-1 NE10) is off until next Saturday, November 28, when it hosts the University of Southern Maine for a non-conference matchup at the Bridgewater Ice Arena at 4:30 p.m. SNHU (6-1-0, 5-0-0 NE10) visits Colby College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
