EASTON, Mass. (February 16, 2022)- In a game that went back and forth that saw four lead changes, and three ties, the Stonehill College men's hockey team fell to the Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) Penmen in Northeast-10 Conference action by a score of 4-3 in overtime, at the Bridgewater Ice Arena Wednesday afternoon.

The Details

  • Neither side could find the back of the net early on in the first, however, Stonehill notched the first goal off the stick of John Peloso with just a little more than three minutes left in the first (3:13). Peloso initially sent a shot Penmen netminder, Adam Mercer. Peloso then followed his shot and corralled the rebound to send it past Mercer for the Skyhawks goal.
  • However, a little over a minute later (2:19), Southern New Hampshire responded and evened things up. Phil Heisse saw an opportunity in front of Stonehill's net and he was able to put the puck past the Skyhawks goalie, Gavin FitzPatrick.
  • SNHU ended up taking the lead with over 11 minutes (11:21) in the second period off the stick of Travis Quigley. Heisse sent the puck ahead to Quigley who controlled the pass and on the breakaway, he found the back of the net to get the Penmen the lead again (2-1).
  • The Penmen lead was short-lived as the Skyhawks tied the game back up at two with under 10 minutes in the period (9:35) courtesy of Mike Seoane. After Will Cohen got the puck over to Charles Page, Seoane put a shot on the net that found its way past Mercer.
  • As the third period got underway, Stonehill reclaimed the lead at the 6:20 mark when Kyle Heath and Patrick Sunderland helped push the puck up to Peloso and found the back of the net for his second goal of the afternoon.
  • Not even a minute later (5:40), SNHU evened things up at three when Ethan Rodriguez was able to get the puck past FitzPatrick to make it 3-3.
  • When overtime started, the Penmen scored the game-winner when Travis Quigley tried to sneak a wrap-around goal but after FitzPatrick poked the puck free, Ryan Coady's skate deflected the puck past FitzPatrick for the game-winner.
  • Overall on the afternoon, FitzPatrick recorded 42 saves and was only one off his career-high (43) set back on November 27 against the University of Southern Maine. For the visitors, Mercer stopped 27 shots.
